The Santa Cruz International Architecture Biennial (BASC) is one of the most important architecture events in Bolivia and one of the fastest-growing in Latin America. Now in its ninth edition, it will take place in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra from March 14 to 22, 2024. This year, the theme will revolve around the concept of “Latin American Parallels.”

At Construmat we are firmly convinced that construction and building renovation are a key element in facing today’s social, economic and environmental challenges, and that is why we focus on sustainability.

Humans are not the only animal architects. Across virtually the entire animal kingdom, building habits can be found to some degree, and species with the greatest construction capabilities are distributed across all phyla, from protozoa to primates. Fascinated since childhood by the architectural work of other animals, Juhani Pallasmaa reviews the construction activity of countless species in this book, focusing on the functions performed by these structures and their construction methods. The text invites us to reconsider human architectural work in light of the creations of other living beings and to delve into the essence of an animal activity where invention and perfectionism are governed by the most basic vital needs.

On March 2 at 4:00 PM, a free public talk will be held with artist Ana Holck and curator Felipe Scovino at the "Entroncados, Enroscados e Estirados" exhibition at the Paço Imperial. The event will also feature the launch of the exhibition's 37-page e-book catalog, which includes text by the curator and photographs of the installation and artworks, designed by Estúdio Afluente. The catalog will be available for free viewing on the artist's new website: www.anaholck.com, which also launches on Saturday.

Adapted from the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning’s large-scale solo exhibition that ran last year, “Ma Yansong: Landscapes in Motion” has been exclusively curated for the HKDI Gallery by its founder, and principal partner of MAD Architects - an architectural collective, Ma Yansong. After graduating from Yale University in 2002, Ma has participated in various international exhibitions and is now set to debut his first-ever large-scale solo exhibition in Hong Kong, solidifying his status as one of China’s most influential architects. The exhibition presents MAD’s most significant urban architectural projects in history led by Ma Yansong, including the soon-to-be-completed Shenzhen Bay Cultural Park, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, and the FENIX Museum of Migration in Rotterdam. In addition to Ma Yansong's thought-provoking design concepts and imaginative vision, this exhibition offers a glimpse into the future of urban civilization – proffering a harmonious coexistence of urban landscapes, historical sites, and natural environments.

We usually cannot name them, nor do we know whether they’re edible or have healing properties. It’s typically only when nature becomes a nuisance, for example during allergy season, that we take note of plants in the city.

This May, in Discourse: art across generations and continents (May 4 - 12, 2024), browngrotta arts in Wilton, CT, will assemble an eclectic group of artworks that celebrate artists from different countries, who work with varied materials, and represent distinct artistic approaches. Discourse will feature dozens of contemporary art textiles and fiber sculptures. More than 50 artists from 20 countries will be featured. The gallery will showcase the minimalist furniture by Danish designer Frederik Fialin, whose practice straddling art and industrial design seamlessly fits into the gallery’s curatorial path, engaging in dialogue with ceramics and tapestries from the ‘Traduslation’ series by French-Swiss artist Réjean Peytavin. Nara Roesler São Paulo is pleased to present the exhibition "Habitar Juntos" (Living Together), opening on February 24, 2024, from 11 am to 3 pm. The show features new, previously unseen works produced in Brazil by artist Carlos Bunga, who was born in 1976 in Porto, Portugal, and currently lives and works near Barcelona, Spain. Accompanied by a text from Ivo Mesquita, the exhibition highlights key elements of the artist's research, which for over 20 years has centered on expanded painting, drawing close connections with architecture, installation, video, and performance. On the opening day, Carlos Bunga will lead a guided tour of the exhibition at 1 pm. He will arrive in São Paulo on February 14 to install his works.

José Pinto Duarte, leader of the finalist team for the NASA Mars Habitat Challenge, will be in Chile from March 12 to 14 to deliver lectures in Santiago and Concepción.

Currently focused on developing new housing solutions using 3D-printed construction, drawing on the experience gained from the space competition, Dr. Pinto Duarte—a faculty member at Penn State University and former researcher at MIT—will deliver two lectures. He will also engage with national teams implementing this technology in the country and visit local companies currently industrializing residential construction.

Next Tuesday, February 27, at 2:00 PM, artist Yoko Nishio and curator Isabel Portella will host a free, public guided tour of the exhibition “Corpo Formoso,” which will be on view until March 10 at the Galeria do Lago, in the Museu da República.
