To what extent can the design and management of cities shape the lives of their inhabitants? This is the question we aim to answer through our first Conscious Monterrey Festival. With the participation of our guests, Monterrey will share efforts already underway, as well as ideas regarding urban matters. From the conservation and identity of built heritage to new policies and visions for the city of the future, we will cover citizen participation, the use of technology, and art with a social perspective.

The application process is now open for the first edition of Comuns, a virtual laboratory for experimental and participatory architecture, organized by Marcella Arruda and Marina Frúgoli in partnership with the Marieta cultural center in São Paulo, Brazil. The laboratory aims to foster the exchange of new experiences and reflections on social, ecological, and political technologies for transforming Latin American territories.

The Architecture and Urbanism program at the Armando Alvares Penteado Foundation (FAAP) is hosting a series of public lectures centered on the theme "São Paulo, Expanded Center: Many people without homes, many homes without people." The virtual sessions will be held via Zoom on October 22 and 29, at 5:00 PM.

Aiming to transform times of crisis into opportunities to discover new ways of overcoming emerging challenges, the Association of Architecture Offices (AOA), through its Associates and Services committee, has organized the "Dialogues for Action" series. This series is designed to provide members and interested parties with an opportunity to discuss current issues related to the city.

The BrCidades project aims to set a new urban agenda focused on building cities that are economically dynamic, socially just, environmentally responsible, and culturally plural. During the period of social isolation, the network launched a weekly program, Meia Hora com o BrCidades, which aims to disseminate its agenda and, naturally, reflect on the changes brought about by the pandemic. With an irreverent and informal approach, the program invites prominent urbanists, researchers, professionals, and organizations committed to advancing these agendas to join the conversation.

The 3rd Seminar "Accessibility: Limits and Possibilities" (online) is an event organized by the "Accessibility in the Interior Space" extension project, linked to the INTRA and LEAUD groups of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (FAU UFJF), as well as the Graduate Program in Built Environment (PROAC). The seminar will take place on August 24 and 25, 2020, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

International initiatives already operating in spaces where architecture serves as a pedagogical tool focused on spatial empowerment, labor relations, methodology, and the process behind buildings.

On September 25, the 6th Open House Madrid architecture and design congress will take place. Titled GREEN IN THE CITY, the event will delve into the capacity of cities to transform and address critical issues such as public health, climate change, and energy generation, among others. Under the slogans "GREEN is the new black" and "Radical GREEN, time to rewrite the rules," the congress will feature top professionals from each sector to share their unique perspectives on the selected theme.

The kinetic installation Path_02 by In-Dialog Collective (Tiffany Attali, Calin Segal, Caterina Miralles, and Codin Segal) tells the story of a journey through cartographic lines. It is drawn on paper by the invisible hand of an AI, an Artificial Intelligence. Its path serves as a testament to its struggle to navigate the millions of pieces of space debris and other orbiting objects that stand between it and the heavens.

The 14th edition of the "From Territory to Detail" International Architecture Seminar serves as a space for dialogue and reflection, bringing together students, academics, and professionals alongside renowned Latin American architects. These practitioners share a common approach: balancing teaching with professional work across various fields, ranging from editorial projects to artistic experimentation.

"Contemporary Domestic Architecture in Times of Lockdown and Emptied Cities"

Aiming to continue the discussion and uncover opportunities for adaptation and resilience, the Association of Architecture Offices (AOA) continues its series of conversations addressing various topics relevant to both professional practice and the public and private spheres that shape the city.

This event continues the seminar series developed by the Docomomo São Paulo Chapter, which resumed in 2017 with the 5th Docomomo São Paulo Seminar held in the capital and organized in collaboration with the School of Architecture and Urbanism at Mackenzie Presbyterian University (FAU-UPM). That seminar was followed in 2018 by the 6th Docomomo São Paulo Seminar, co-hosted with the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism (IAU-USP) at the University of São Paulo’s São Carlos campus. Scheduled for 2020, this new seminar fits naturally into the national DOCOMOMO calendar, which hosts national events in odd-numbered years and regional events in even-numbered years. However, given the ongoing pandemic and social distancing requirements, the organizers have opted for a remote format; consequently, the event will take place entirely online. This will be the first online Docomomo Seminar in Brazil.

This year, the 13th International NUTAU 2020 Seminar, scheduled for November, will be held entirely online. The central theme, “Valorization of Urban Forestry Waste,” seeks to discuss its potential for research and projects within its fields of activity.

Architecture Conversations - 2020/2 Architecture and Urbanism Lecture and Workshop Series

In these times of change, AOA proposes an optimistic approach to the challenges facing cities and their citizens in both local and global contexts. By identifying existing opportunities for positive change in the wake of a crisis, we aim to promote more resilient cities, both in the immediate term and for the future.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in Chile, numerous Open Design and Distributed Manufacturing initiatives have emerged. By leveraging digital networks and media, these initiatives develop and share high-standard Open Source models that are materialized across the country, creating an exponential impact.

How can we make this type of social and economic behavior permanent, beyond an emergency context?
