These are small creative challenges that we will launch regularly. The Uyuni Salt Flat Shelter competition seeks to foster a reconnection with nature and with the human experience within solitude. Acceleration, instantaneity, immediacy, technologization... Daily human life has been subsumed by synchronous devices such as the clock and the mobile phone, resulting in a stressed society that has lost all trace of its biological temporality and its shared life with the environment. Here, on the salt flat, all technology disappears. Total computerization is not possible.
Natural disasters, flooding, unbalanced environmental exploitation, urban occupation of high-risk areas, exclusionary urban planning, the degradation of historical and cultural heritage, precarious housing, restrictive urban mobility, and government neglect are some of the many adversities that define the context of contemporary cities. The city emerges as a grave consequence of these disastrous events, which occur either through continuous processes or isolated episodes.
