Jonite offers contemporary engineered stonework solutions that merge natural aesthetics with high-performance functionality for modern architectural and landscape designs. Jonite's breeze blocks were selected for Siglap House in Singapore.
Siglap House is a private bungalow located within the quiet residential enclave of Siglap, Singapore. Designed by HYLA Architects, the residence explores modern tropical architecture through the careful balance of privacy, light, and ventilation. The design pairs functionality with a refined material approach, offering the homeowners a secluded retreat that remains connected to its surroundings and climate.
One of the defining features of the project is a sculptural breeze block wall placed just beyond the main gate. Built with Jonite’s Modubloc system, the wall acts as both threshold and screen, introducing rhythm, filtered views, and natural airflow into the entry sequence. The modular system was custom-finished to align with the residence’s material palette, adding depth and variation through the interplay of light and shadow.
Beyond its visual impact, the breeze block wall supports passive cooling and enhances ventilation while preserving privacy. The solution reflects a wider design intent focused on environmental responsiveness, reducing reliance on mechanical systems in Singapore’s tropical climate. Such a feature demonstrates how modular stone elements can define architectural character as well as performance.
