Washbowls & Shower Surface in Italian Lodges | Kaldewei

Kaldewei combines modern luxury with sustainable thinking to offer unique bathroom solutions. NUEVA washbowl, MIENA washbowl and NEXSYS shower surface were used in Green Lodges, located in Montegrotto Terme, Italy.

In the spa town of Montegrotto Terme, near Padua and Venice, Studio Apostoli has reimagined eight suites within the historic resort and spa hotel Terme Preistoriche. Known as the Green Lodges, the project reflects an ecological design philosophy that places nature at the center of the guest experience. From the outset, architect Alberto Apostoli emphasized a sustainable approach aligned with the project’s credo, “Space for Nature". Instead of clearing land, the lodges were carefully inserted into the existing landscape, ensuring that centuries-old trees remain untouched. The result is a delicate dialogue between architecture and environment, where built form and natural setting coexist harmoniously.

Clad in larch slats, the lodges adopt a warm, organic character while relying on a wood-based, environmentally sustainable construction system. A geothermal heating system powered by the thermal waters of the nearby Euganean Hills further strengthens the project’s ecological credentials. The interiors follow the same philosophy: the bathrooms of the Green Lodges are conceived as sanctuaries of both comfort and sustainability. Products from Kaldewei’s Luxstainability® collection—including the MIENA and NUEVA washbowls and the NEXSYS floor-level shower surface—were chosen for their refined aesthetics and ecological performance.

Designed by Anke Salomon and Werner Aisslinger, the washbowls embody an elegant minimalism, with clean lines and timeless proportions crafted in recyclable steel enamel. Their durability and climate-friendly production reinforce the project’s environmental ethos while offering tactile beauty and long-term functionality. The NEXSYS shower surface continues this balance of performance and design. With an integrated channel profile it allows for quick installation while ensuring a sleek, floor-level aesthetic. Resistant to scratches and discoloration, the surface offers hygienic, low-maintenance durability—an essential feature for luxury hospitality environments.

The Green Lodges at Terme Preistoriche stand as an architectural statement that marries sustainability, luxury, and wellbeing. Each design choice, from construction methods to interior finishes, supports the vision of creating spaces where guests can immerse themselves in nature without compromising on comfort or environmental responsibility. In Apostoli’s words, the project embodies “a harmonious interplay of sophisticated design and ecological responsibility”—a perfect synthesis of architectural sensibility and natural context.
