As part of UniFor's Heritage Collection, Cartesio was designed by architect Aldo Rossi and represents his idea of the perfect office. Though created at different times and in different circumstances, the Cartesio, Museo, Parigi armchair, and Consiglio pieces are emblematic of the architect’s postmodern approach to architecture and furniture. As a product of the same design process and style, Consiglio is a classic furniture element characterized by meticulous details and simple form.
Design Concept
UniFor's Cartesio is a bookcase made with cubic boxes in painted sheet metal which can be grouped in individual configurations. Designed for Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht, Cartesio reflects a functional yet furniture piece with sophisticated and recognizable aesthetic qualities. A brace is used to give the bookcase stability, while the front area is covered with glass openings, creating a sort of curtain wall made from a single panel of plywood. Cartesio is available in specific personalized sizes, with a range of finishes including Cina red and Madonnina blue. Overall, Cartesio combines practical storage with a unique classical look.
