Switchable Glass - Sky-Frame Switch | Sky-Frame

Sky-Frame Switch is a switchable glass feature for the frameless Sky-Frame sliding system. An electric impulse changes the properties of the glass, so a facade can move between clear and controlled states without blinds or external shading. The cable routing is completely concealed within the system.

Construction
The switchable function is built into the insulating glass and controlled electrically. It works on both fixed and sliding elements and can be activated in any position, including while a panel is sliding. Switching is instantaneous and requires no moving parts in the reveal, so the glass changes state while the frameless front stays uninterrupted, and the function can be assigned to individual panels or to a whole front. Because the wiring is hidden in the profiles, the frameless appearance of the glass front is retained. Within the modular Sky-Frame system, Switch is one of the features added to a base configuration of system, glazing technology and track option.

Two variants are available, addressing privacy and solar control:

Glazing technologies
Switch is applied to the base glazing technology, Sky-Frame 2 (30 mm double glazing) or Sky-Frame 3 (54 mm triple glazing). The thermal and acoustic values follow the selected technology; no separate certification is documented for the switchable function.

System compatibility
Switch is standard with the Classic system and available with Arc and Pivot on request. With Sky-Frame 3, Switch can be combined with Drive.

Applications
Typical applications are residential architecture as well as hospitality and commercial buildings, where a glass front serves both as an open view and, on demand, as a screen against sightlines or solar heat gain. Because the change is electrical, the same front can be left clear for the view and switched only when privacy or shading is needed. The state changes instantly on demand, so view, daylight and privacy are managed without mechanical shading elements.

Colours and manufacture
Seven anodised finishes are supplied as standard: the colourless E6/EV1 and six chemically mattened Colinal tones. Further anodised colours are available on request, as is powder coating in the RAL, IGP and DB colour systems, applied in-house to the Qualicoat standard. All components are developed and manufactured in Switzerland; more than 15,000 projects have been realised since 2002.
