The BLL Awards for Architecture & Design comes from “Bringing light to life” which is the slogan of VELUX world brand for roof windows, which distribute daylight and fresh air into buildings through the roof. The idea of the Awards is to popularize good architecture, from architects and designers across countries in the CEE (Central and Eastern Europe) region, which demonstrates the effective distribution of daylight into buildings and the utilization of the space under the roof elements. It is a platform to showcase the work and products of architects and designers to a global audience. This year is the 6th edition of the BLL Awards, and is now open for entries. Seven countries from the CEE region are included – Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Turkey.
Starting with the landmark exhibition in 2014, Built by Women has offered the opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of achievement in the building industry by women at the highest levels.
Women are underrepresented in the building professions: architecture (15–18%), engineering (4.5–13.7%), and construction (2.6%). Built by Women’s goal is to change this. Increasing the number of women in science, technology, engineering, architecture and mathematics is critical to our country’s ability to compete globally.
The purpose of this competition is to recognize the significant but often overlooked work of women architects, landscape architects, urban designers, engineers, contractors, and developers in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
Garage Museum of Contemporary Art announces the second competition for the development of conceptual designs for 2020’s Garage Screen, a summer cinema located on Garage Square in front of the Museum. The competition’s goal is to provide architectural bureaus with an opportunity to submit their vision of a temporary pavilion to be installed in Gorky Park from spring to fall 2020. Applications will be accepted from 22 July through 16 August 2019.

The Brick Industry Association (BIA) has opened its entries for the 2019 Brick in Architecture Awards—now celebrating 30 years as the nation’s leading architectural design competition featuring fired-clay brick. Entries are due by Oct. 31.
With a history of stunning, innovative and unusual design, all submissions must use clay brick as the project’s primary building material.
“We’re excited to showcase outstanding design that demonstrates brick’s virtually unlimited aesthetic freedom and sustainability,” said BIA President Ray Leonhard.

In partnership with Better Block Foundation, Spin is launching an open call for designers, urbanists, architects, citizens and anyone who cares about safer and more livable streets, to design an on-street parklet prototype that blends the traditional parklet, bike corral, scooter parking, and bus shelter with placemaking.
Finalist teams in the design competition will receive $1,500 towards fabrication costs, plus mentorship and support from Better Block Foundation, and up to $1,500 in travel budget for domestic U.S. travel to Denver, Colorado.
