Nominations are invited for the 2011 Harleston Parker Medal, which is presented to “such architects as shall have, in the opinion of the Boston Society of Architects…completed the erection for any private citizen, association, corporation or public authority, the most beautiful piece of architecture, building, monument or structure within the limits of the City of Boston or of the Metropolitan Parks District”.
Back in December we showed you the second place project by Asymptote Architecture for the Kaohsiung Port Terminal Competition. We have now an update on the project, with a great video and some models you can check after the break.

Bank in Donoratico / Massimo Mariani The project concerns the redesign of a building at Donoratico (in Livorno) located next the head office of the bank “Banca di Credito Cooperativo di Castagneto Carducci” (also designed by architect Mariani in 2002). The building is on two levels (read more…)
Football is one of the best vehicles for social change (not to mention it’s fun to play). As fans of social change AND fun, Architecture for Humanity, Nike, and Fu.De (Football for Development) have teamed up to host a design competition for a prototype football, education, and health center for Liga FOS — a project that promotes social development through sport in vulnerable Buenos Aires suburbs.
The 2011 edition of Indesem will focus on the theme ‘Losing ground’; the changing position of architect and architecture with respect to the digitalized network society and the necessary shifts in practice and thinking when designing in this changing paradigm. While building information modeling (BIM) is traditionally thought of as being effective on large, complex projects, more and more architects are also using it on single-family residential projects to lower costs, speed construction process, and make better-performing, greener buildings. Hear from architects using BIM for residential work about the benefits-and some of the challenges.

The international competition, NETWORK RESET, seeks to reactivate the entire boulevard system. The competition will focus on the urban scale and a larger framework for the system as well as smaller scale user impacts. NETWORK RESET aims to reactivate the entire Boulevard System of Chicago and to develop a quality transportation corridor.
The competition seeks out fresh and inventive designs that will help promote not only downtown but the City of Miami, and it’s historical connections to modern architecture.
POST2000TALKS is cycle of conferences architecture related in Lisbon. Its purpose is the display and exchange of different architecture experiences worldwide. The guests represent a generation of young professionals whom started their own office/research practices after the year 2000. The program is defined by a continuous line-up of lectures, presentations and debates. POST2000TALKS is a collaboration between JA-Project and the think-tank NOGO, and hosted by Galeria Luis Serpa Projectos, all based in Lisbon.
KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten International received first prize in the international competition for the new Beijing Science Center. The original building housing the Museum was opened in the same place in Beijing in 1988 and at the time was the first national science and technology museum in China.
The museum building will be constructed on behalf of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, China. You can see more images and complete architect’s description after the break.

Morerava Cabins / AATA Associate Architects We originally started with the idea of the Morerava Cabins when we saw an opportunity to create a tourist complex on Easter Island in 2009. Analysing the tourist market on the Island we quickly realized most sectors were well developed, spanning from luxury Hotels to private homes and camping, however one niche sector was not covered: family friendly cabins which meet certain quality standards (read more…)
