The competition is now open. The 'Play Park: Ballyfermot' project is a unique opportunity for an innovative inter-disciplinary design collective, with a passion for working in community contexts to develop a world class play and skate space for young people in Dublin.

Nka Foundation is issuing a challenge to designers, architects and builders to use their creativity to come up with innovative designs for modest, affordable houses that can be built locally to replace the rural mud house type. The challenge is to design a mud house type of about 2400 sq feet that sleeps 8 to 10 persons to be built on a plot size of 80 x 100 feet. The construction site will be Abetenim Arts Village, near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The building should be designed for use by either musicians, theatre artists, potters, sculptors, painters, textile artists, designers, writers, or media arts practitioners. Total costs of constructing the design entry must not exceed $7,000 (USD) for materials and labor; land value is excluded from this price point.
Strelka KB, a leading Russian operator of architectural and urban planning competitions, announces the open two-phase competition for the development of architectural and design solutions for the new Moscow metro stations "Nizhniye Mnevniki" and "Terekhovo". Russian and foreign architects and designers are invited to participate. Winners will be announced in February 2016.
Applications are now open for 2016-2017 Harvard GSD Loeb Fellows! The program seeks applications from innovative and visionary practitioners working to improve the built and natural environment. Each year 10 ten outstanding practitioners are offered a ten month sabbatical to deepen and hone their practice and maximize their future impact on the urban environment. Fellows join the GSD community, interact with students and faculty, pursue independent research projects, and audit courses throughout the university.

The annual Moscow Urban Forum is right around the corner. To be held from October 16-17, the theme of this year’s forum is “Moscow as a Dynamic Megacity: Flexible Management Practices.” The forum will feature two days of conferences, exhibitions and lectures with a focus on issues surrounding the development of Moscow. While in past years the conference focused on issues related to megacities in general, this year for the first time the forum will just focus on the capital city.
“The international political situation influenced the key aspects of the country’s life, bringing internal goals and tasks to the foreground. That is why we have decided to concentrate only on the Moscow agenda this year, and to dedicate the Forum to the presentation and discussion of projects related to the capital, a search for new Moscow development centres, outlining the problems and challenges faced by the megacity during the crisis, a search for the most optimal and effective solutions for further successful development of the city,” said Marat Khusnullin, the Moscow Deputy Mayor for Urban Development and Construction and the head of the Moscow Urban Forum executive committee.

The exhibition brings together the research conducted through the Consortium for Hydro-generated Urbanism (CHU) at the University of Florida that is focused on the history and future of Florida’s water based settlements and hydro-environments within the broader context of new paradigms for the evolution of cities on water from around the world.
This annual worldwide design competition was established to honor and celebrate outstanding originality and excellence in the creation of international Interior Design/ Interior Architecture projects in 13 categories. Any Interior Designer/Interior Architect may submit design project(s). The project(s) must be located outside of the United States; however, the design firm may be located anywhere (including the USA). The design project(s) must have been completed after Jan. 1, 2014. The competition is part of the project Ma.Te.Ri.A. - Materials and Techniques of Reuse for the Self-building, funded by the program "Laboratori Urbani - Mettici le mani" of the Region of Apulia.
The SAH 2016 Annual International Conference will take place in Pasadena/Los Angeles, April 6-10, with the theme New Local/Global Infrastructures. The conference will engage participants from around the world with the rich, evolving legacy of the region’s built environment. With the scheduled completion of the Metro Expo Light-Rail Line west to Santa Monica in early 2016, Pasadena will be connected to downtown LA and the rest of Los Angeles County. This infrastructure, building on historic right-of-ways, will provide new ways to see the broad range of the region’s architecture and urbanism.
This competition is open to graduate and undergraduate students around the world who are currently enrolled in an interior design or architecture program.
School projects already completed may be reinterpreted and/or edited to meet the requirements of this competition. If the school project was completed as a group, all members must agree in writing to enter the reinterpreted and/or edited project, and all members must be listed as participants on the entry form.
This is the third edition of “Radical Pedagogies” exhibition. Earlier versions of this show were presented at the 3rd Lisbon Architecture Triennale (2013) and the 14th Venice Biennale of Architecture, curated by Rem Koolhaas (2014), where it was awarded a Special Mention. For the occasion of its presentation in Warsaw, the exhibition opens up new directions and a new density of global interconnections. Eastern Europe, Africa, East Asia and Australasia become the protagonists, opening new insights into pedagogical experimentation after 1945.
The Oslo Architecture Triennale 2016: After Belonging invites architects and other professionals from around the world to engage in a debate concerning our changing condition of belonging and the contemporary transformation of residence. This open, international call offers a unique opportunity to be part of the Triennale’s core program, as it seeks intervention strategies for five different sites in the Nordic region. One intervention strategy will be selected for each site and will be developed over one year. The selected interventions will be displayed at the National Museum—Architecture in Oslo.

School of Visual Arts honors designer, critic and educator Michael Bierut with the 27th annual Masters Series Award and Exhibition. “The Masters Series: Michael Bierut” is the first comprehensive retrospective of the designer’s work, and features groundbreaking logos, graphics and exhibition designs as well as personal works from his own collection. The exhibition will be on view from October 6 through November 7 at the SVA Chelsea Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor, New York City.
An expert in shell structures and a pioneer of the morphogenesis in the field of architecture and civil engineering, Mutsuro Sasaki is a professor at Tokyo's Hosei University. He is also one of the founders of Sasaki Structural Consultants since 1980 and of SAPS / Sasaki and Partners since 2002. In extending the research work of Antoni Gaudi, Heinz Isler and Frei Otto, Sasaki's work has helped shape contemporary architecture in Japan and other countries. Mutsuro Sasaki is a long-standing structural engineers of Toyo Ito, Sejima and Nishizawa of SANAA, and of Arata Isozaki.
In conjunction with Archtober and New York Archives Week, the Guggenheim will host its third Wikipedia edit-a-thon—or, #guggathon—to enhance articles related to women in architecture on Wikipedia, the world’s largest source of free knowledge.
Ma Yansong, Founder and Principle Partner of MAD Architects, will launch his most recent book Shanshui City on October 13th at The Architecture & Design Museum, Los Angeles. The free event will begin with a brief presentation on Shanshui City by Ma Yansong at 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by a conversation with Frances Anderton of KCRW’s DnA: Design and Architecture, and Dean Qingyun Ma from the USC School of Architecture.
