The Félix Candela Award is an international architecture ideas competition conducted in Spanish that takes place in two phases. Organized annually by the Instituto Español de Arquitectura (IESARQ), it is open to students of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, and design, as well as architects, landscape architects, urban planners, and designers up to 35 years of age, participating individually or in teams of two to three members.
The fourth edition of the Félix Candela Award is conceived as a reflection on abandoned architectural heritage scattered throughout the Hispanic cultural world, and an invitation to retrace the path of lost steps toward our cultural origins. It is an original and unique journey to reclaim the lessons of our memory in the present and face the future. Ultimately, in the words of Juan Borchers, it is about “uprooting [humanity] from the natural order in which it habitually lives” to create a new order through architecture that places the human being at the center of their intellectual and sensitive nature.
