EXPO VIDEO: Invisible Cities at Spazio Ridotto (Oct. 24–Nov. 25, 2016)

EXPO CHICAGO and Zuecca Project Space collaborate to present a satellite iteration of the EXPO VIDEO program, highlighting a selection of dynamic and cutting-edge film, video, and new media works by artists selected from EXPO CHICAGO 2016 Exhibitors at Spazio Ridotto in Venice, Italy. The programmatic partnership between the exposition and the satellite location extend on a programmatic partnership presented with the Italian Cultural Institute in Chicago.

The Ville de Montréal (City of Montreal, Qc, Canada) is launching an international competition for the design of worksite information modules.

The purpose of the modules—prototypes of which will be installed in summer 2017 on three specific sites—is to mitigate the adverse impacts of worksites on the quality of life of residents and the economic vitality of surrounding areas.

Although these transitions are essential steps in the renewal of cities for the 21st century, worksites are disruptive both to the economic activities of business communities and to the daily lives of citizens.

Based on selected distinguished national and international projects, the exhibition represents the state of the art in sustainable and modern timber architecture. Beam Camp, a specialized summer camp for building and collaboration located in Strafford, NH, announces its annual international search to find its 2017 Beam Projects. The large-scale collaborative projects are realized by Beam campers, aged 10-17, and staff at the camp’s 106-acre facility in Strafford, New Hampshire.

Projects are budgeted at $12,500. Winning designers receive a $3,000 honorarium, travel costs, and are invited to visit camp during the project’s production.

Proposals

Opportunity Space is an international design-build competition challenging multidisciplinary teams to propose a temporary, mobile structure that will support economic opportunity and social inclusion in Malmö, Sweden.

The winning team will receive a $10,000 prize, a $5,000 travel stipend, and up to $25,000 to cover the costs of implementing their proposal, including costs for materials and insurance.

ARKxSITE is pleased to announce the SITE DWELLING international architecture ideas competition for architecture students and young architects.

The SITE DWELLING, located on the cliff of the bay, in the village of Salir do Porto, Portugal, aims to create a secluded destination, a place of retreat to engage with the landscape while providing shelter from the natural elements.  This is a place to stay and inhabit for a few days, offering visitors a unique experience in a very special setting; visitors must leave the space as they found it, empty.

Europe’s migration crisis has intensified the need for cities to develop new tools and strategies to help people build skills, earn a living, and establish their place in society. To address this challenge, New York-based design nonprofit Van Alen Institute has launched Opportunity Space, a competition inviting multidisciplinary teams to propose a temporary mobile structure in Malmö, Sweden that will support a wide range of social programs.

The winning team will receive a $10,000 prize, a $5,000 travel budget, and up to $25,000 to implement their proposal in and around Malmö’s Enskifteshagen Park for two months in spring 2017.

The Dallas Architecture Forum will launch its Twentieth Anniversary Season on October 24 with a lecture about the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture. The winners of this triennial competition (grand prize of $1,000,000 USD) were recently announced and include projects by internationally known firms such as Zaha Hadid Architects and BIG Architects, as well as those by rising talent from countries around the world.
