Room is an independent student publication out of the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of British Columbia. Each issue of the annual digest explores a different distinguishable room and challenges its boundaries and demarcations, both material and immaterial.
Chouteau Greenway International Design Competition
Great Rivers Greenway is leading a major public-private partnership to establish the conceptual plan for the Chouteau Greenway in St. Louis through this design competition. The goal of the project is to connect the areas of Washington University and Forest Park to Downtown and the Gateway Arch and Mississippi Riverfront. With spurs north and south and many other destinations along the way, the greenway will connect area neighborhoods, employment centers, parks, transit, and dozens of cultural and educational institutions.

The international architectural competition for a new center of the Bulgarian mountain resort Borovets is now announced
On the occasion of the commemoration of 120 years since the foundation of Borovets, the oldest mountain resort in Bulgaria, the Municipality of Samokov and its partners - the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria, the Union of Architects in Bulgaria and the Union of Urbanists in Bulgaria -announce an international architectural competition for new central part of the resort.
Aerial Futures: Leading Edge is lively, provocative and interdisciplinary symposium examining the architecture, technologies and cultures of the contemporary airport. Curated by PLANE—SITE and free to attend, this two-day event understands the airport as a choreographed topography of hypermobility, information and cultures, defining how we travel, trade and connect with each other. It marks the threshold between land and sky, as well as sovereign territories. The airport — what the philosopher Giorgio Agamben describes as a ‘zone of exception’ where the ordinary rules no longer apply — is where the definitive issues of the 21st century play out.

The Avery Review, a journal of critical essays on architecture published by the Office of Publications at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, invites submissions for its first-ever Essay Prize. The International Specialized Exhibition Astana EXPO 2017 dedicated to the theme "Future Energy" was an expositional and recreational event that took place between June 10 and September 10, 2017 in the capital of Kazakhstan. Many of the physical spaces that architects, landscape architects, urbanists, and engineers design are inherently locales of joint access and participation. Such long-existing typologies of sharing include plazas, living rooms, libraries, waiting areas, museums, and cohousing schemes. The built environment serves as the platform within which myriad sociological, cultural, and technological forces share legal parameters and broader audiences. Today, digitally-based platforms, supported by vast physical infrastructures, facilitate new types of exchange. Such platforms bring about liberating possibilities to actualize transnational networks that coalesce around food, shelter, transportation, and talent. Yet, for every emancipatory path an equally restrictive one exists. Digitally-mediated sharing can serve as a mask for diffuse forms of financialization and extraction in spatial domains that traditionally conducted their day-to-day operations outside of the flows of global capital.
