STUDIO FIRST is an online five-week summer studio in architectural design for students from a wide range of backgrounds who are considering graduate studies in architecture, urban design, or landscape architecture.

Mass housing in post-war socialist countries was a quick and effective way to provide homes for the expanding city populations after WWII, but after the collapse of the Soviet Bloc the fate of these constructions became uncertain. While modernist estates are being renovated or prematurely demolished, their tenants remain undaunted. They have lived through the buildings’ golden years and darker times.
For the last decade, Zupagrafika has documented the housing estates erected in Central and Eastern Europe, still perceived by many as ‘eyesores,’ through photographs and illustrated paper models. The Tenants features over 40 housing projects in 37 different cities of the former Eastern Bloc and ex-Yugoslavia. From Berlin to Norilsk, and all the way through Kyiv to Tallinn, the album portrays the inhabitants of those complexes holding models of their homes, while sharing the stories of lives lived in the prefab panel blocks.

As outdoor spaces become more comfortable, more practical and generally more appealing, Architonic's Global Design Agenda turns its focus towards the great outdoors. With the »District of the Generations«, the city of Schorndorf, a medium-sized center with about 40,000 inhabitants in the Rems-Murr district, is planning an urban development extension of the »suburb« to the north of the train station. The goal is to develop a dense neighbourhood where multiple generations can come together to live, work, and care for one another. The core of the plan is the 1.5 hectare site of the former construction and municipal depot. Proximity to the city, good quality of life, and a strong sense of community should be created in the new district through common living spaces, as well as through the combination of public areas and diverse options for local infrastructure, education, leisure, and culture. The project managers are intentionally focusing on resource-saving, low-emission energy and material concepts. The area should be designed to have low vehicle traffic, with a focus on public local transportation and spaces for sharing services and deliveries.

With the Rhine-Ruhr Express (RRX) project, DB Netz AG is implementing one of the most important rail infrastructure projects in North Rhine-Westphalia in order to upgrade regional transport on the core route of the Ruhr region and the central Rhineland from Dortmund via Essen, Duisburg and Düsseldorf to Cologne by increasing both the frequency of service and the transport capacity. As a result, the RRX brings major transport benefits to the city of Düsseldorf.

December 16 2021, Super Typhoon Rai, locally known as Typhoon Odette, made landfall in the Philippines. The storm was unexpectedly powerful, undergoing what is called “rapid intensification” the day before making landfall, which is becoming characteristic of tropical storms occurring in our warming climate. With winds of up to 195 km/h and gusts of 260 km/h, the storm was comparable to a category five hurricane when it hit.

YSY GROUP, Hidesins and Desall invite you to design a family of “pop up” display installations dedicated to women's ready-to-wear bags and high-tea desserts. The installations will be positioned within 5-star luxury hotels, and in particular within tea rooms. The goal is to promote the brand and its core product (women’s bags), creating a unique, unexpected and engaging space in which hotel guests can take photos to post on their social networks, and then continue the experience at the table as they enjoy a refreshment.
