Real Review Community

Real Review Community

The magazine defining "what it means to live today" is cultivating a community.

We will unite many as one.

This is a project to radically transform a culture magazine into a new model of community. We want to turn our readership into a membership, using digital platforms to create spaces for new types of content, engagement and governance. We want our members to have a stake in Real Review's present and future, to work together on "what it means to live today".

What is Real Review?

Real Review is a contemporary culture magazine founded in 2016 as an an ad-free, independent outlet that aims to make sense of our ever-changing zeitgeist.

Real Review contributors include His Holiness Pope Francis, Virgil Abloh, Olafur Eliasson, Hito Steyerl, Chelsea Manning, Wolfgang Tillmans, Slavoj Žižek, Extinction Rebellion, Stoya, Bifo Berardi, Cao Fei, Carlo Rovelli, Harley Weir, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and many, many others (see below).

We are dedicated to "what it means to live today" because by better grasping the present, we increase our agency and potential for changing the future.

If you are an existing reader, you will know how important this is.

If you are discovering Real Review for the first time, welcome! please join us!

What is Real Review Community?

Instead of subscribers and readers, Real Review Community will have members.

Every membership will include:

- advance copies of the biannual, print-only magazine
- access to the member's area of our new website, where we will post special content, archival material and special projects.
- an invitation to our private Discord server, where members will be in direct contact with our team, and in touch with each other. We plan to use the Discord for exchanging ideas, building common knowledge, creating a library of relevant material and schedule presentations, reading clubs and other meetings.

Exciting!

Why now?

The people who read Real Review are as unique as the publication: intelligent, curious, and deeply committed to our values of democracy, inclusivity and equality.

They are only connected to the Real Review team through a biannual print edition. They are not connected to each other at all. This is a missed opportunity.

The last few years have shown us it is now more urgent than ever for such a creative, progressive, and engaged group of individuals to be united – to form a community capable of advancing our common interests and collective understanding.

Why are we on Kickstarter?

To host our community, we need to raise at least £26,880 to deliver a new website, a Discord server, digital media channels and improve our print editions.
