Open Call for Permanent Exhibition Project at National Research Center of Thailand in Bangkok

National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) announces an national open call for a permanent exhibition project. The winning proposal will be realized at NRCT in late 2022.

Under the Parliament Act on administrative regulations for the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, BE 2562 (2019) provided in section 13, the functions and powers of the National Research Council of Thailand are: 

- to manage grant funding for research and innovation;
- to create database and citation index for national science, research and innovation;
- to initiate, curate and collaborate any significant research and innovation projects of the nation;
- to formulate the set of principles of research standards and ethics;
- to recommend and submit knowledge for beneficial use;
- to support and promote human development in research and innovation;
- to recognize and honor the remarkable individual or organizational entity in research and innovation.

NRCT based in Bangkok, Thailand, envisions being the main organization driving a strong research and innovation system by providing the fund support through research grants, human developments and developments of research and innovation ecosystem in accordance with the Thailand National Strategy.

Open call for exhibition design : -

Type of Event : Permanent Exhibition (onsite) and Virtual Exhibition(online)
Event Period : From November 2022 onwards with no indicated date of dismantle
Scope of Interests : "Timeline of Thailand Research Development & NRCT People Hall of Fame - from Past to Present"

The call is open for architects, artists, designers, researchers, curators, critics (individuals or teams) of Thai nationality. Submitted projects may fall into a wide range of genres – associated with architecture, art, design, and other disciplines – and should reflect on the relevance of NRCT interests to respond to contemporary research discourse. We welcome original projects that demonstrate new and innovative ideas, critical and experimental approach, and independent thinking.

The applicant should be capable of conducting research and developing an original vision and coherent curatorial narrative as well as an integrated exhibition design proposal. The projects should clearly describe their concept, inspiration, mood & tone, etc.

With regard to the exhibition space dimensions, we recommend to submit projects for thematic exhibitions. Proposals will be reviewed by the Thai panel of jury. The jury will consider proposals that explore a variety of story-telling design and technology development-oriented invention.

Basic information about the exhibition space : -

The exhibition space consists of two rooms. One is used as a corridor and the other is a bigger main space, both can be used for the exhibition. The exhibition can potentially expand into a reception area. The main room may be used for a installations, a video projection, etc. The dimensions of the main room is approximately W25 × D15 x H2.2 m. For visualization see the attached photos.

NRCT offers : -

- limited financial coverage (currently not exceeding THB 500,000), which will cover graphic design, materials, fabrications, installation, transport, honorariums / participants fee, and travel costs
- printing of exhibition posters and brochures, etc.
- PR (press release, social networks, newsletters, etc.)
- exhibition opening (catering, service, sound)
- keeping the exhibition open for the public in office opening hours

The application must contain : -

- project abstract (max. 500 words) and visualization of the project (max. 2 pages); the description should include name of the applicant (s), title of the project and contact details
- brief biography of project designer(s) (max. 150 words)all materials should be
- submitted in Thai as one PDF file (max. size 10 MB), please use this file naming convention: “Applicantʼs name_NRCT_Material.pdf” (e.g. Somjai Suksan_NRCT_Presentation.pdf)
- all applications must be submitted in Thai

The applications must be submitted electronically by August 3, 2022, to the email address infoscala.th@gmail.com. In “Subject” of your email, please indicate “Applicantʼs name_NRCT_Open Call 2022” (e.g. Somjai Suksan_NRCT_Call 2022).

The jury will select one winning project. The results will be available in September 2022. The exhibition should be begin installation in November 2022.

The winner will consequently closely cooperate with NRCT staff and Info Scala project manager to develop further the content, format, and related program. The exhibition will be held permanent at NRCT at the end of 2022.
