Amsterdam Light Festival invites artists, designers, scientists, engineers and architects) to submit ideas for artworks to be staged at the festival's 2016 - 2017 edition. The fifth edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival will take place in the city center of Amsterdam in November 2015 till January 2016. The deadline for submissions is 11th of March 2016.
For the first time the festival introduces two themes which relates to each of the exhibition routes:
Illuminade, walking route: Biomimicry
Biomimicry is an approach to innovation that seeks sustainable solutions to human challenges, by emulating nature's patterns and strategies. The goal of Biomimicry is to create products, processes, and policies—and ultimately new ways of living—that are well-adapted to human life on Planet Earth over the long haul. We encourage artists to team up with scientists and (software) technologists, and submit as a multi-disciplinary team that addresses the theme of Biomimicry in a way that surprises, inspires, raises questions and engages viewers of all ages and all backgrounds.
Water Colors, Boat route: View on Amsterdam
We aspire artworks that offer a new and unexpected view on Amsterdam, its history, its architecture, its relations and international role, as well as its future. Being a historic city that has always welcomed people from all backgrounds and from all over the world, Amsterdam is a densely populated capital that bubbles and buzzes of activity, thoughts and new ideas.
Open to All: With the call for concepts, the festival invites anyone to submit individual interpretations of the these themes. Read more about it in the Artists briefing. In order to request the full artists briefing, please fill out the form at: www.amsterdamlightfestival.com/cfc
