2 Architects Among Recipients of $50,000 United States Artists Fellowships

United States Artists (USA) has selected 37 artists for their 2015 “USA Fellows” – artists who will receive an award of $50,000 to fund their creative practice and development. Among the 37 artists, chosen across nine disciplines, two of the awarded fellows were architects: Jonathan Muecke, a USA Knight Fellow, and Chat Travieso, a USA Young Arts Fellow.

Jonathan Muecke, perhaps best known for his work with Design Miami is a graduate of Iowa State University, and following an internship with Herzog & De Meuron, has established himself in the field of contemporary design, with an emphasis on furniture design and reinterpretation.

Chat Travieso is an architectural designer whose work focuses on a playful investigation of public spaces, according to his website. He has worked with The Design Trust for the Under the Elevated project, a research and intervention project improving the interstitial spaces of New York.

Highlighting the value of originality across all creative disciplines, the USA has offered over $20 million through their Fellows program since its inception.  The uniqueness of the award is in its flexibility – awarded artists may use their funding in any way they choose. This year’s recipients were chosen from over 400 nominees living in the United States or US Territories.
