The Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) has appointed Hernan Diaz Alonso as the Los Angeles architecture school’s new Director beginning September 2015. Alonso, principal of Xefirotarch and educator widely credited for spearheading the transition of SCI-Arc to digital technologies, will succeed architect Eric Owen Moss who has served as the school’s director since 2002. Continue after the break to watch Alonso’s “New Director Presentation” and preview a selection of his work.
“SCI-Arc’s task, in perpetuity, is to go where we haven’t been, and report on what we find,” stated SCI-Arc Director Eric Owen Moss during the announcement of Alonso’s selection. “Hernan Diaz Alonso is the perfect architect to continue this expedition.”
“SCI-Arc is a unique institution and I feel fortunate for being able to call it home for the past 13 years,” said Diaz Alonso in an address to faculty, students and alumni. “Our school is an ambitious institute, and I share this ambition to showcase to the world the many different ways in which architecture and design can change it.”
