Bamboo Forest and Corinth Hut / RAA

Rryuichi Ashizawa Architects designed a series of temporary wooden buildings for the Aqua Metropolis Osaka Event. While visitors can meander through the delicate wooden open structures, other wooden pods provide more shelter for varying activities. Extending past the small island, a geometric, almost folding, form provides the perfect setting to take in the panoramic view of the city.

The “forest” consists of curved bamboo tent-like structures that define a space for holding workshops or daily art programs.  The delicate wood acts like a roof cover that floats over the visitors walking beneath.   Each larger pod, as well as the viewing center at the end of the site, was made from wood.  Every joint was bolted, making it an easy assembly and dismantling process.
