Video: Urbanized

Brought to you from the minds behind the documentary films Helvetica and Objectified, filmaker Gary Hustwit and cinematographer Luke Geissbuhler have started filming Urbanized, a study on how design affects our daily lives.  The third film in the design trilogy, Urbanized continues the discussion surrounding the development of cities, presenting the challenges for and response by designers and citizens. The film will also highlight implementation of proposed design solutions, as it is happening now and in the future.

“I think a lot of people don’t really realize how much design goes into the planning and development of the city and how that design affects our lives,” shares Hustwit.

In the midst of a massive migration to urban areas, Urbanized couldn’t come at a better time reflecting our response both as a general public and design profession.  Interviewing mayors and developers, architects and urban planners, also including citizens of communities who have in someway reshaped their city, the Urbanized team is traveling the world compiling footage from a diverse group of cities, already visiting Mumbai, India and Santiago, Chile, to name a few.
