The renovation project for the Pacaembu Complex was named among the winners of the AR Future Projects awards, organized by the British magazine The Architectural Review. The announcement was made on March 14, and the official awards ceremony will take place in London in early June. Featured in the “New and Old” category, the project was among the three “highly commended” entries among this year’s winners.
Construction work on the Pacaembu Complex began in June 2021, following approvals from the State and Municipal Historic Preservation Councils and the relevant municipal departments. The renovation of the complex must respect the history of the original 1940 architectural ensemble.
A nine-story mixed-use building, with four underground levels, is currently under construction. Three of its floors will house a hotel in partnership with UMusic Hotels, a joint venture between Universal Music Group, the world leader in music-based entertainment, and Dakia U-Ventures, an international investment group.

The building will also feature an events and convention center for up to 8,500 people, as well as underground parking. Rounding out the program of the new building will be a sports medicine center, an entrepreneurship and innovation hub, a branch of Galleria Continua dedicated to contemporary art, alongside office spaces, restaurants, and retail shops.
To compete for the award, Concessionária Allegra Pacaembu, the company managing the complex, presented the project “as a large-scale intervention that will give rise to a unique equipment typology: a mixed-use urban center with a soccer stadium at its heart.”

“We succeeded in showing the international community what we are doing here in Brazil. We have very high-quality projects that have gone through a period of maturation and refinement. The AR Future Projects award validates this approach and serves as an additional incentive. We are truly honored by the recognition,” highlights architect Sol Camacho of the firm RADDAR, who is part of the technical team at Concessionária Allegra Pacaembu.

In recent years, the Pacaembu Complex has been at the center of debates regarding the use and management of public spaces in São Paulo. In 2019, the city government signed the concession of the stadium and its built complex to the Allegra Pacaembu consortium, formed by the companies Progen and Savona. The contract has a duration of 35 years.
