IABsp Launches an Open Call for a Proposal for the XII International Architecture Biennale of São Paulo

Everyday, the theme of the XII International Architecture Biennale of São Paulo, Brazil, proposed by the curators Vanessa Grossman, Charlotte Malterre-Barthes and Ciro Miguel, seeks to reveal architecture and space through everyday life. Architects and urban planners have long aspired to design total environments, civilizations, even the planet. However, in the current climate of political and economic uncertainty, occurring against the backdrop of unprecedented environmental impacts wrought by rapid technological development, design professionals have begun to acknowledge the vulnerability of their work to global transformations and the challenges of an automated future.

IABsp announced the curatorial team of the Open Call for Curation for XII International Architecture Biennale of São Paulo. The team formed by the Brazilian architects Ciro Miguel, Vanessa Grossman and the French Charlotte Malterre-Barthes were chosen by the jury through the proposal titled Todo Dia.

Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the Institute of Architects of Brazil - Department of São Paulo (IABsp) has launched an unprecedented call for the selection of a curatorial proposal for the Architecture Biennale of São Paulo, to be held between September and December 2019. The proposal should formulate and justify the core program, concepts and themes that frame the Biennale.

Participate in the Observatory of the 11th São Paulo Architecture Biennial

The Observatory of the 11th São Paulo Architecture Biennial aims to map, articulate and democratize instruments that provoke discussions, propose the editing and transformation of the city. It acknowledges punctual actions that, while placed in different circumstances, point out strategic matters to rethink the contemporary metropolis. The selected works are organized as individual files and include formats such as photo essays, guides of use and exploration of the city, manuals for the transformation and local action, investigation work, among many other formats. Besides the research carried out at the Studio of the Biennial (currently counting with more than 500 initiatives compiled), other references will be added up based on the work received in the Open Calls. Through this initiative, the Biennial will leave a legacy to the city, collectivizing the access and opening the debate about an array of initiatives that target the urban transformation.
