First photos of Spencer Dock Bridge released
Amanda Levete Architects today released first images of the completed Spencer Dock Bridge in Dublin. The 40 metre span bridge with its fluid lines and undulating concrete surface will take trams, traffic and pedestrians across the Royal Canal. The edges of the deck peel down to reveal a space for pedestrians to pause and take in views of the dock and Linear Park which is currently under construction.
The underside of the bridge merges with the piers in a single movement with joint lines in the concrete designed to accentuate the geometry of the form. The finish of the concrete provides high visibility against the dark water of the canal and at night the structure will be vibrantly lit from below giving the bridge a significant presence. Full press release and more images after the break.

Kaplicky’s controversial Prague Library may get built
Before Jan Kaplicky’s recent death, the controversial Prague National Library project by Future Systems was supposed to be shelved forever. However, there are rumors now saying it may get built, thanks to a popular Facebook group supporting the project.
Maybe the Prague National Library will be finished by Amanda Lavete, who recently announced the formation of her new office, Amanda Lavete Architects. This new practice follows the end of Levete’s 20 year partnership with Jan Kaplicky at the influential Future Systems.
You can see the Facebook group here (it’s in czech though).
