More about this product

Self-boarding gates from dormakaba were installed at Heathrow airport. As the second-busiest airport in the world, Heathrow Airport requires a variety of solutions for passenger flow and security measures. In 2018, it handled a record 80.1 million passengers and 480,339 airplanes. To meet the increasing growth, Heathrow Airport wanted to improve passenger management and the speed of the boarding process by using innovative access solutions. Self-boarding gates from dormakaba allowed for integrated access with the existing biometric infrastructure found at the airport.

Biometric boarding gate and automated system in airport

Close collaborations

The project required over 400 gates to be installed, paired with the complex integration process proving a challenge. To achieve this installation the engineers, the dormakaba project team, and the team at Heathrow Airport collaborated closely throughout the process.

Systems installed

  • Biometric Gates - Innovative technology that uses facial recognition at check-in, bag drop, security, and boarding gates. The system has been tried and tested by border institutions as part of immigration and traveler verification processes.

  • Self-Boarding Gates - HSB-M03 self-boarding gates paired with the PaxCheck self-boarding solution. This facilitates gate management and sends reports about passengers and passenger flows.

Benefits of the new system

  • Faster and easier without any comprises on security
  • Seamless transitions with facial recognition of passengers
  • Quick response from the dormakaba team when issues with the third-party IT providers arise
  • Self-boarding using a web-based administration program
  • Automated comprehensive reports on passenger flow with PaxCheck
  • Third-line and fourth-line support from dormakaba
