BoomSPDesign 2012: Global Starchitects and Cosmopolitan Designers Align in Brazil

BoomSPDesign is at it again! Now in its fifth addition, the creative design, architecture and art forum has quickly become known for attracting elite creatives from around the globe to share their passions in this unique, Sao Paulo forum. Centered around all things creative, the three day event will commence on August 22nd at the Centro Universitario Belas Artes de Sao Paulo.

Curator and cultural promoter Roberto Cocenza stated: “This year we are connecting, via Sao Paulo, two continents, Old World with the New World: We have the German Juergen Mayer H. bringing the sophistication of European thought and sensibility, with his intricate architectural patterns, and then we have Fernando Romero, a young talent from Mexico that with his rambunctious Sumaya Museum quickly entered the pantheon of iconic contemporary architecture.”

In the past, the event has featured design and creative luminaries likes Karim Rashid, Carlos Miele, Arne Quinze, Greg Foley, Dror Benshetrit, Matali Crasset, Ruy Othake, Sergio Rodrigues, Paul Clemence, Chad Oppenheim and Harry Allen. Altogether , more than 100 speakers have participated on the project, since its inception in 2008.

This year the rooster of speakers includes Germany’s Juergen Mayer H., Mexico’s Fernando Romero and Brazilian rising “star” Rodrigo Ohtake, along with project director to the “starchitects” Andy Klemmer.

Making the connection between art and architecture, the exhibit “FUTURE PRESENT” by Brazilian-American photographer Paul Clemence will be celebrate the conference’s 5th anniversary by showcasing projects by 5 international architects that have shaped the our urban landscape, among them , Renzo Piano, Juergen Mayer H, Ruy Ohtake, Herzog de Meuron and Frank Gehry. Taking place take place at an iconic location itself, the COD showroom, in a building designed by Pritzker winner Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The exhibit will also include a photo essay on Sao Paulo.

In this ever changing, ever connecting, ever mixing world and times, Beto Cocenza’s creative forum gives a platform to discuss and get acquainted with how new design emerging from Brazil is influencing the latest international design trends, art and expression.

The lectures will take place at two equally relevant locales in the Sao Paulo design scene: Centro Universitário Belas Artes de São Paulo and D & D Shopping.
