Language of Home: The Interiors of Foley & Cox

foley&cox is a New York–based interior design firm recognized for its style
and versatility, led by Michael Cox. Cox focuses his practice on the concept of
home—a word that encompasses a myriad of associations for everyone but can
be most eloquently and simply described as the special place where we feel most
comfortable. Published to coincide with the firm’s 20th anniversary,
Language of Home: The Interiors of Foley & Cox presents twenty-four projects that reflect the breadth and depth of the foley&cox portfolio.

Organized into three thematic sections — Waterfront, Cityscapes, and Countryside— the featured interiors range from elegant prewar apartments in Manhattan to
retreats and summer homes in the Hamptons and New England, and even to a
private jet and a yacht that cruises the Mediterranean. What unites these spaces
is an overall sense of balance and serenity. Infused with luxurious fabrics in
subtle tonal variations, a judicious use of highlight color, and distinctive vintage
pieces that add a sophisticated touch to the rooms, these projects are all, as
Pamela Jaccarino, Editor-in-Chief of Luxe Interiors + Design writes in the foreword, “timeless, bespoke, and beautifully executed.”

In addition to Jaccarino’s thoughtful words, the monograph includes project
introductions, as well as a preface by Cox that outlines the firm’s overall vision and
mission, putting an emphasis on the importance of relationships—from clients and
craftspeople to architects and landscape designers. Cox also includes a section on
lessons he’s learned and principles he’s developed, such as “Plan ahead—then think further ahead,” and “Be willing to compromise but defend your vision passionately.”

Heavily illustrated with luxurious interior and exterior photographs,
Language of Home is a celebration of twenty years of highly individualized, but collectively serene spaces that create a sense of welcome and comfort.
