Only in China could we find a video featuring the construction of the 15 story Ark Hotel built in 6 days. Located in Changsa this building is level 9 earthquake resistant and incorporates some sustainable practices.

WOW!
So you don’t care that people work during the night ?
So you don’t care that people around can’t quietly sleep ?
Six days to construct. Probably not.
To Archidaily:
The location is Changsa not Shanghai.
And although your disclaimer says
* Location to be used only as a reference. It could indicate city/country but not exact address.
In this case you were 875km off the mark. Gold star for find China on the map fellas
impressive speed. no creativity.
too bad it is ugly

Whatever they might lack in creativity in these modern times, they amply make up in ingenuity, determination and resources. Although the majority of Chinese architects excell when working from a mindset of practicality & efficiency, they’ll soon be competing with Architects from the west, on a creative side.
To any architect in the west struggling to make ends meet since the economic crisis: China welcomes you!
ingenuity? My experience is that most chinese architects and engineers lack ingenuity. It is necessary to teach a process step by step, and even then there is no creativity when one encounters a challenge slightly outside of their experience.
when you say “they’ll soon be competing with Architects from the west on a creative side” I ask how soon? and what is this ubiquitous “west.” Why is the world divided as China and ‘the west’? The us vs. them mentality has suited China well for the past 1000 years, but it hinders their ability to be innovative and creative in the present age.
I believe that there are Chinese architects who are creating interesting works of architecture. But this Ark Hotel project is only interesting due to the speed of construction. It is not architecture, it is industry.
i very impresh
It is about business, not about architecture…
In the video it indicates that the building doesn’t locate in Shanghai but in another city ‘Changsha’ in Hunan province…
In McDonald’s, you can get a burger in a few seconds.
Would you like a restaurant with your order?
it’s possible because its box-type ugly design..
but I can’t see they did pipe, duct and electric works.
In addition it did not include basement construction.
wow, this is amazing!!
will it last longer than this one?

Yes you should really edit this post. This is NOT in Shanghai – geez what’s up with the wrong facts, even when people who read Chinese repeatedly post this in the comments.
Nothing impossible in China. Because a two leg pig can walk and run.

Well, built is a bit misleading. It was ASSEMBLED in 6 days with brute force man power. Took a LOT longer to build and fabricate all of the components.
Still an amazing feat, and there are a lot of good ideas to take away from this. If only we could get rid of the negative stigma associated with pre-fabricated construction in this country…
No elevator?
HI
Anybody know the name of this chines company?
Tanks

So they assembled a shell made from pre-built components in 6 days? No that impressed. No HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Controls, Elevators, Fire Sprinklers, Telecom, or interior walls / finishes, or fire protection.
Not only that, they probably spent years designing & constructing the modules before the on-site assembly.
I’m very impressed. Only the Chinese would think of something like this to show the rest of the world how capable they are. To the Chinese “nothing is impossible”.
Good work, but I hope that the standard (value) should be there.
can anybody inform me who the architect, project manager and builder is??
Now I know how Admiral Yamamoto felt after the Japanese attack on the U.S. in 1941, when he said “I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant, and filled him with a terrible resolve.”
wow, how many people and mechanical units were involved in construction?
American architects and contractors are lazy. It cost more to build a hotel in America than it would be worth at completion. That’s why the design-construction industries are dead.
America has forgotten innovation – China has discovered it. “Function” is important. Cost is important. Our architects always think they’re building something for their portfolio, not for the end users. That’s dumb.
Jason’s Right.
Under what Contracting Company done this project?Does anybody knew?it’s quite impossible, but to see is to believe..so i need to do more research.
Wow, so many of you are bashing the lack os esthetics, and beauty. Look at the big picture, low cost, homlesness, employment. Dont be pissed because it was the Chinese,be happy they are holding everyones feet to the fire and forceing us to be competitive.I think its great, & if the interior work takes 6 more months then it`s still quicker than any thing Ive seen in Canada..
