Video: Villa Nurbs / Enric Ruiz-Geli
Enric Ruiz-Geli created the Villa Nurbs in the coastal town Empuriabrava at the Costa Brava, Spain. The mixture of ceramics and plastics try to optimize the surface and structure, which is important for the temperature regulation inside the house. The wavelike ceramic plates decorate the facade and protect against strong solar radiation.
The complex geometry is stabile but adaptable, and the completion of Villa Nurbs will express all Ruiz-Geli’s aim to optimize building resources and to harmonize nature with technology. The energy-saving roof consists of inflatable plastic bubbles.

Ugliest building ever….!
Even though I agree with the importance of the energetic and parametric agendas, all the statement doesn´t sounds coherent at all with the building, too much words too less architecture.
please stop to show this building… the construction is endeless and is a buiding that is changing the history just about the cost of a small building and a crazy client that allow to make this monster in his land… poor neigh borough… please finish it! 6 years and more talking about this villa… is already out of fashion!
I think that this new forced parametric agenda is delivering the ugliest buildings ever, not to mention pointless. It seams that everybody want to be Zaha today in trying to top that last guy that’s delivering something outrageous. God save us, i hope this movement will die prety soon.
It is amazing how many architectural cliches can this video contain!!! The explanation quotes, at least, four architects and thinkers in a totally unconnected way (except in the architect’s head) and numerous lousy and gimmicky analogies appear (the seed? are you serious?) only to try to make more interesting a building that it is a caricature of the parametric agenda!
Not a single interior view of the building (since it is all about the funny nurbs and the ceramic tiles), not an explanation of how it works or how these “interiors’ transitions” operate; it only shows the close-up of one of the more complex and hideous cladding details ever that allows “the tiles move differently (sic)”
This is not a critique of parametricism and its pertinence; it is not about the potentials of innovation neither… it is a claim for the values that good architecture represents and this house barely understands! Very bad mr. Ruiz-Geli…
My sentiments exactly. The fact that there are no interior shots is very telling. And the archi-speak was beginning to make me queasy.
elite architecture… lol. boat and car… very accessible for mass population.
Im sure filtering through the aesthetics to critical points could bring fruitation of interesting ideas (i.e transport/capsule/urban movement_sustainable)..
but it goes back to elite. As for parametrics.. im sure there is a use that goes beyond the mere fluid environments. dont let the leaders pollute this.
computers were an advantage to hand no?
