Architects Roman Pomazan and Eugene Vashchenko shared with us their proposal for the “Library of the name of Kushnaroyv in Kharkiv Competition”, for which they received an honour diploma in singularity. The library, located in Liberty Square, Khrakiv, Ukraine will combine a research center, huge library storage, a kid club, cafe, a bookstore, business area and work studios. See more images after the break.

It looks like Frank Gehry got drunk & decided to stretch Chinese “Birds Nest” mesh from “Herzog & De Meuron” on top of one of his unfinished 3D sketches. It is surreal in its weirdness & crudity. Work of a “trader” who pretends to be a “talker” http://bit.ly/9A1dYU

Thank you for detailed grading. Of course, it looks a bit cartoony, but it was done especially.

Would somebody PLEEEEEZE explain what the fascination is with all these distended membranelike designs of late; including this one?

Is all this stuff predicated on a desire of designers to somehow show what they can do with texture map software???
What is the deeper meaning?

This looks like a CATscan of a coral or something…….

It is a test of the pen, conception project in severe Ukrainian reality. Actually we are still studying to think deeper. And U can?

it would be grat to see some images about the technical part of the project, the main problem that i have with this projects it,s that we can use voronoi, reothomic surfaces, etc etc, but we dont see manufacturability, how the designers think at the begining of the project , about how the hell is it going to be builded. not all the clients can afford for the advance geometry unit to solve all the mess.

Who cares about “severe Ukrainian reality”, don’t make a martyr of yourself. The building looks completely alien in this place. You should try harder not to try so hard

I’m aware about “severe Ukrainian reality” and, what is more I think that this competition has no future and has done for proclamation only. All features would been simplified and detailed further. This is just concept.

I think, that historical parts of the sities should not be deface by new building. It’s will be better for all to place this building in another place.

Absolutely worthless project, not taking into account the landscape! Destroy park for that… mmm… freak? Very-very bad idea! And let’s be honest: the personality of Kushnaryov does not have enough Kharkiv sympathies, as somebody would like it to be.

Svetlana says:

Dear architects! Please, keep in mind that this new building is going to be placed in a beautiful Shevchenko Garden – and a lot of wonderful oaks will have to die in order to give you the required space. Are you sure this project is worth that? I don’t think so and I know that hundreds of other Kharkov citizens agree with me. I’m sure that everyone who loves Kharkov and who loves Nature has to say his/her ‘no’. And I believe that Roman and Eugene can also join the city protests!
