Instant Kiez / Felix Yaparsidi + Valentin Ott

The proposal created by German duo Felix Yaparsidi + Valentin Ott was awarded first by the cultural department of the Federation of German Industry. Entitled Instant Kiez, the idea is an instant neighborhood that would create a kind of ‘sociocultural social’ to support the new urban base.

The site is filled with different forms of temporary use, and these link the historical side of the location with the modern master planning vision. Emphasis is placed on the connection between the user groups and “by bringing them together and letting them participate in the process, a foundation is being created that allows a healthy urban development.

Instant Kiez proposes the construction of certain stair cores on the site, which are independent from the actual building structures.  ”These stair cores are influenced by the temporary uses surrounding them: the ten towers are distributed across the area and each provides an additional use, changing its appearance and influencing its character.”

The thinking behind the proposal focuses on a flexible design that can be adapted to fill the gaps in terms of process and space. “Until the full integration of the towers are accomplished, they help to bring about a sense of identity, attempting to connect the different parts of the city even before the actual building structure has been set up.”
