Inntel Hotel Zaandam, Netherlands designed by © Roel Backaert

In Zaandam, the city of the first European McDonalds, we find the Inntel Hotel designed by dutch architects WAM.

The 12-storey tall structure is the result of stacking a series of tradicional Dutch houses.

Neo post modernism?

Dustin says:

Ewwwww. Seems to be a trend these days to take an existing typology and just attached it to facades to create a recognizable building type that can be accepted without thought by the local culture.

I’d say it’s more camp than kitsch, and intentionally so to the degree that it’s actually interesting.

Nothing wrong with a bit of humour, or a big tongue in the cheek. I know it’s quite kitsch, but i find the playfulness rather intruiging… Something radically different to most of the clinical and minimalist spec boxes you find so often these days. Just too bad there isn’t any additional information (floor plans and such) to study the buidling more thoroughly. Respect!!

This is a horrific looking building, truley one of the ugliest things I have ever seen but it makes me extremely happy! It is just like a house constructed from Lego by children but should only ever belong in this pretend world
