Habits, Patterns, Algorithms: 1998-2008 / Stephan Jaklitsch

By Sebastian J — Filed under: Publications ,Retail , , ,

Stephan Jaklitsch is the architect behind Marc Jacobs’ stores around the world, with ongoing projects in Tokyo, Chicago, Macau, Singapore, Mexico City, Thailand and Hong Kong. On this book you will find several store designs (for Marc Jacobs and other brands), with several interior details presented in large format.

But Stephan’s work is not only restricted to the retail area. Residential projects and urban competitions by his practice are also included on this book, sharing a common denominator with the retail projects: good quality of the drawings.

A complete monograph, but also a good reference book for retail inspiration.

More information after the break.

’s Habits, Patterns, Algorithms presents a diverse selection of the studio’s most noteworthy projects and built work. Organized in a rough chronological sequence, the projects range in scale from small interior-oriented retail constructions and free-standing residential work, which engages the surrounding landscape, to larger urban transformations both built and speculative. The primary focus is the process of the design and construction of each work and the strict limitations presented by program, site, code or client conditions. Each project is presented with detailed drawings, sketches, models and photographs.

If writing a book about yourself makes you an autobiographer, what does writing a book about your own works make you?

It is a nice book. :-)

nice lifestyle book . however, the current trend requiring architects to write a monograph before they have done any notable work, i find troubling.

Hold on, writing critical analysis, does get trivial but it is necessary, writing in architecture and design is a key to understanding our design processes…if you say just build- then you are no different than the snake like real estate developers of Playa del Ray, Riverside, CA and Valencia CA- writing and design progresses building and prototyping….get it right homie
