Unusual Architecture

By — Filed under: Misc

A reader sent us this quite unusual project. We don’t know where it is or who designed it, so if you know please do tell us. What do you think it is? My guess, something related with music…

This from a translation website. I am still clueless.

By “black triangle piano, transparent violin” the modern building and take the white wall grey tile as the characteristic building, “will enter” from the blueprint to the Huai Nan Shannan newly developed area, this will be the Shannan newly developed area which one after another began the project on the other day plans the exhibition hall and the project investment company office building.
“Serve as contrast mutually take the black piano and the violin” as the main body exhibition hall, is situated south side the newly developed area headquarters present office building, the design has manifested the innovation mentality and the rich artistic atmosphere, after completes echoes with the peripheral natural environment, becomes the newly developed area symbolic construction. Will be brimming with the modern breath with it neighbor project investment company office building in the Chinese tradition construction style, Bai Qiang, the grey tile succinct classically elegant natural and the contour sprightly, the big area natural lighting, the style is practical and the splendid fusion, it will pursue the coordination which will change and unifies, natural environment and a humanities spirit body.

this muct be in China, somewhere in the ‘provincial’ town, the building should be used pbviously for music related program like conservatorium?

Good thingof China is that it is far from complicated, meaning there should be nothing complex theory behind this building… No post modernism.

Daxin says:

This building is in the city of Huai Nan (淮南), An Hui (安徽) Province, China. It is built in 2007 as a city planning showroom and office for a new district. I could not find out who designed it, but the contractor is from Dalian (大连), another Chinese city full of flamboyant new buildings.

Among architects in China, this building gets very low marks for its ultra-realism, even though ironically it embodies all five points of architecture of Le Corbusier. However, the general public seems to love it. It has become a popular backdrop for wedding photos and is dubbed “the most romantic building in China”.

The Chinese do not have monopoly on buildings that mimic real world objects. Check out the basket building of Longaberger in Newark, Ohio http://www.longaberger.com/homeOfficeFacts.aspx. Between these two, I definitely like the Piano building more.

It’s in China and it’s Postmodern. This doesn’t mean we have to trash it. Because I can think of many buildings in the Western world, that are recent, that could deserve the same treatment.

It’s hyperealistic, so what. Think of the challenge to design the details, in stead of bitchin’.

Architecture is not only about the looks, and we all know that. What kind of social considerations were taken here? the quality of space and how it belongs in its context, both physical and sociological? isn’t there a thin line between being creative and missing the point of architecture and the social responsibility that comes with it?
