if we say that celebrating the technique, the human genius and the creativity is pointless, well, yes, the burj dubai is pointless, like a lot of stuff built on this planet.

so I guess they did it, they reach the top right? maybe next challenge should be who can reach the center of the earth? or put a building inside a volcano? in the deepest of the ocean? or how about help people who doesn’t have a place to live?… but honestly I really think is great that Burj Dubai is the tallest building in the world in the middle of the dessert, I bet this is going to benefit all human kind, or at least some… maybe I’ll go there to do some skydiving, you can bet on that. Thanks for the video!

What so we can go and pilgrimage to the eiffel tower now as tourists?
Feel slightly alienated the consume small golden versions of the tower?
To disperse these tokens to family and friends? appropiating all that is good and to be seen?

Amazing commentary. I wonder if it is a renaissance of medieval thinking or if this pervasive negativism never left us. Of course, the medieval wasn’t pervasively negative, though these comments are.

@Rob thanks for making the comparison to the Tour de Eiffel. This building is, first and foremost, and engineering achievement of the first magnitude. It should be celebrated.

Not sure any of us can say what medieval thought was or was not, i’d still say the burj and the eiffel tower to us today are pointless. In this sense i’d completely agree with you that they are both fine engineering achievements but they ain’t architecture.

Iee, everything that is built by man is architecture.
two columns with beam on top is also architecture.
In my opinion this building does not show cultural identity.
Of course this building has many problems and potentials, but hey
this is, the tallest architecture building in the world or maybe even in universe. :)

RC von W says:

Please, it’s no less pointless than lee’s last little studio project.

I love how all these white, western upper middle class cunts feel SO threathened by Dubai in general. How it questions everything mother thought them was ‘good taste’.

    lee says:

RC von W you are talking class propaganda not taste, taste was never commented on, but i agree with you to a point. My commentary was completely indifferent to Dubai (in general) the commentary was on the burj as a monument and the effects of it on the social milieu; not on Dubai as a destination. Are you planning a visit? if you are suggesting it is all pointless then i could not agree more; if you think Dubai is great and desire it it would be my opinion that you are of course a corpse.

ehehe i hope so, cause Dubai is in debt for about 150 billions dollars!
oh, last news: now the tower is called burj khalifa, in honor of Abu Dhabi’s khalif that lent 20 billions dollars to Dubai
