University Library / njiric+ arhitekti
For njiric + arhitekti’s library in Zadar, Croatia, the team worked with interpreting the local context as a “conflict of two matrices – the urban and suburban in the east to the west.” The new library emerges at the crossroads of these two different zones. With emphasis on the erosion of public space and an explosion of new technologies, the library becomes a series of environments with access to different activities. In this way, the library becomes a host for different purposes, for instance, “the library = market = hotel = shopping. ” The Mediterranean variant for the library is based on the density and the interdependencies between the university building, student hostels, major public buildings, and the diverse landscape structure.

Come and visit Croatia – the jewel of MAGREB ;-)
The Jewel of Maghreb??? North Africa?! Are you serious?
Well, I was trying to be ironic…regarding the overall design that has nothing in common with our Croatian architectural heritage (which may be OK, but why the hell does it have to look like Algiers or Marocco?)
I really don’t understand what the jury were thinking…
I’m not sure what Maghreb you have been to (or speak of for that matter) but this does not look similar to ALGERIA (Algiers is the capital) or Morocco.
there’s some christian kerez warsaw competition in it, mixed with kerez’s friend valerio olgiati. even the the floor pattern is from olgiati.
Never writing on this site, but I have to tell – I have the same filling, when I saw those images, but for me exterior and interior are so separated, not conected, without something like clever idea to brought together all the things. Something is missing here. Last thing – building looks strange without human. :)
good observation :)
Very Olgiati-esque http://www.archdaily.com/45307/university-library-njiric-arhitekti
