SANY Beijing / Perkins and Will

Perkins+Will’s master plan for SANY Beijing was awarded first prize in the “Conceptual Design” category at the 8th International Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism due to the project’s strength in the categories of spatiality, connectivity, originality and sustainability.  SANY is the largest heavy equipment manufacturer in China and one of the top 10 heavy equipment manufacturers in the world.  The company wanted to achieve a higher degree of efficiency in their manufacturing process and create a memorable visitor experience.

Perkins+Will’s collaboration with the Urban Design group, Corporate + Commercial + Civic architecture group and the Shanghai office produced a building that exists “in harmony with nature.”  The building created and preserved wetlands, protected sensitive watersheds, and was designed for optimal solar orientation and community interaction.

The building provides the space to run the company efficiently while also creating a distinctive brand image for SANY that will stay in the minds of those vistors who experience the building.
