Andre Kikoski has designed a new restaurant, , for the Guggenheim Museum in New York that transforms Wright’s familiar geometries into a new dining experience.     “It was both an incredible honor and an exhilarating challenge to work within Wright’s iconic building,” says Kikoski. “Every time we visit, we see a new subtlety in it that deepens our appreciation of its sophistication. We sought to create a work that is both contemporary and complementary.”

More about the restaurant after the break.

The 1600 sqf restaurant contains a playfulness of form as a curvilinear wall of walnut layered with illuminated fiber-optics accentuates the main wall and sculptural forms embellish a flared ceiling. While the style is refreshingly contemporary, the forms are rooted in Wright’s underlying geometries to create a relationship between the main museum and this new addition.

Essential to Wright’s architecture is the feeling of procession as one enters the main lobby of the Guggenheim which Kikoski carries through the restaurant design by engaging the heightened sense of procession using surfaces and textures animated by movement to create a fluid aesthetic.

design is spectacular however the color scheme is totally
unbefitting a restaurant. Not conducive to an environment
    where one eats.

I do disagree with Marouli. I think this restaurant is more cafeteria, snack & go, style so using bright colors totally fits. if this were a more formal sit down establishement then the colors go.
I must say that I’m not a fan of the gray chairs. think those could have been better. yellow comes to mind….or maybe the cherokee red that Wright is so famous for.

what a great design. you can see the “Wright Style” in there without copying it. takes the linear attitude and transforms it to today with vibrant colors and a modern feel.
awesome

Agree with Marouli.Form’s FLW,alright..But something about the quality of the space doesnt feel right for a cafeteria.More like a surgeons operation room.
