Architectural Fashion: Frank Gehry for Lady Gaga

This morning I was watching MTV and there was a video for Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi”. Even if you like or don´t her music, the aesthetic/art direction of the video was incredible. After that I went went to my computer to Google more info about the video, and found a tweet by @tomatoejane, one of our readers, pointing to an article on Curbed NY: Frank Gehry Designs Hat For Lady Gaga.
The result? You can see it on the above photo. Personally, I didn´t like it. Before seeing the photos of the hat I thought Gehry would come up with something totally different…

Hm….I don’t think he personally designed this. I think someone was rummaging through Gehry’s trash and found it very fitting to put it upon Lady Gaguntome’s head.
This is a great juxtaposition of Architecture and fashion, it really illustrates how fasion and arc inspire eachother. Yea!!for gagg, she looks amazing
I don’t personally like the hat either – but you are absolutely correct about the direction of Lady GaGa’s music videos – I love them. If you like Paparazzi – check out Bad Romance. http://fightingzombies.com/2009/11/17/lady-gaga-bad-romance/ It has a lot in the way of couture fashion.
the hat… is ugly, but her videos are amazingly well done and very smart.
This just shows how egotistical architects become. They truly believe that narrow expertise in one creative field carries over into all the others.
Heck yeah it does Matt V! Because that expertise, rather than being in “buildings” is instead focused on the idea of “design”. It’s a matter of learning the proper way to approach a problem, and then being able to apply it to anything. Buildings are only one part of architecture.
That said, in response to the author’s comment that he expected something different than Gehry… I think it looks exactly like something Gehry would do. Step 1. Crumple a paper ball artistically. Step 2. ??????? Step 3. Architecture!

“Form is dead…” (that from someone who knows nothing about Architecture – but loves art. But architecture can definitely be viewed as an art.)
