Portada

The competition-winning design of the main stadium for the 17th Asian games in Incheon, in , illustrates a new level of sustainable design in stadia in Asia. The stadium will hold 70,000 people for the main event in 2014 and will reduce down to a single sided grandstand for 30,000 afterward as a People’s Park for the city of Incheon. The global architecture firm, Populous, formerly HOK Sport Venue Event, is designing Incheon stadium with local firm Heerim Architects and Planners.

I ENJOY THE IDEA OF REDUCING THE STADIUM DOWN AFTER THE MAIN EVENT IS OVER. MORE STADIUMS DESIGNED FOR SPECIAL EVENTS SUCH AS THE OLYMPICS AND THE FIFA WORLD CUPS SHOUD ALSO CONSIDER THE DESIGNS TO BE BROKEN DOWN AND OR REDUCED IN SIZE FOR WHEN THEY WILL NOT BE USED AT ITS MAXIMUN CAPACITY..

I heard about this before….can’t remember where. At the time it was going to have the largest solar array of any building. don’t know if that’s still true but it’s a nice goal….hope all the empty promises that you get with sustainable design I hope this one lives up to the hype.

Why are ALL of these images taken from a birdseye view. you’re going to experience the building as a pedestrian (unless you’re being helicoptered in for an event). The design and the renderings look great, but should the building be shown from the perspective it will be experience from? Or is that now just an afterthought?

That’s correct, it’s an interesting swirling shape as seen from the air but very few people are going to experience it that way in practice.

does anyone else think its weird there are no elevation images? And how do we know a project so obviously and expensively designed in plan will look good in section?

there’s no elevation b/c this beautiful design was plaraized.

Obviously a mere imitator can not imagin or captured the original quality of space that was designed by the beuatiful mind.

I see inconsistencies in the quality and in the character of curvelinear lines and pathways…prooves that this is an imitation of one beutiful work !

An interesting solution in architecture for the modern stadium. See the You Tubes of James H Klippel, Terra homage and Suncrest cottage for more organic natural architecture. From small solar cottages to mega earth structures, Terra Homage Architecture integrates mankind into the Earth’s beauty.
