Our friends from 3LHD shared their awarded competition proposal for a private medical center for Firule in Split, Croatia.  The Polyclinic is situated close to the sea and its fresh air, near an existing hospital complex.

More about the clinic after the break.

Due to the programmatic and functional demands of such a project, the architects “developed acquired functions vertically in order to place all the services, diagnostics, practices and laboratories as requested.”  Public spaces are located on the ground and first floors while the patient clinic and administration are on the upper floors.

The façade envelope is the main visual element with its horizontal bands accentuating the structure.  In addition to its aesthetic qualities, the façade is a sophisticated light regulator and classic sunshade.   ”It covers the house like the bandages are protecting the patient,” added the architects.

Exterior and semi public areas are interspersed throughout all floors. Such public spaces “divide and connect spaces of the polyclinic, and instead of introvert hospital corridor, they provide a relaxing zone filled with Mediterranean greenery, wooden terraces with view to the sea and surrounding islands.”  The atriums provide a relaxing atmosphere where patients, staff and visitors can escape the hospital setting and take in the surroundings.

If they manage to capture the spirit of these images in the real thing they will give us a wonderful building – that said without seeing the plans of course.
