Text description provided by the architects. ArchiSpel is an activity field in Spaarndam, a small town near Haarlem and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. In 2009 the municipality of Haarlemmerliede & Spaarnwoude organized a design competition. Young architects and designers were invited to submit a design for the site in Spaarndam. The municipality wanted to give young architects the opportunity to execute a real project: ArchiSpel is NOV’82’s first project.

In the design several oval-shaped islands are created. Each island accommodates a different activity and has its own look and colour. Together they give shape to an archipelago of games. For the youngest there is for instance the fantasyland, the youth can hang around in the loitering spot and for the elderly there are places to play chess. The loitering spot, as all furniture on the field, is build up out of concrete blocks. This gives the site a robust and indestructible look. The roof of the loitering spot is made of steel sheet pile wall elements.
