In Progress: One World Trade Center / SOM

© Paul Clemence

Architecture photographer Paul Clemence shared with us a recent photo set of the current status of the One World Trade Center building by SOM.

I was downtown today, checking  out the commotion by Ground Zero and snapped these images of the Freedom Tower. Is for sure going up and we can already glance at its connection to neighborhood buildings, its presence on the skyline and some interesting architectural nuances.

I agree, this building is nothing special. It’s height will be the only thing that sets it apart, but it doesn’t really belong in this site. Unfortunately, the same can be said about most of the buildings that are going to be build in Ground Zero. Developer’s interests ruled over everything else. It is sad, a site with such history should have only been replaced by great buildings (not below average ones).

yeah, Larry Silverstein is probably the main reason to have the WTC look like this.

As usual, money talks. No way they could let that whole lot be filled with memorials instead of office space making money. Sad, but realistic.

I think there is a lot to this building that everyone is missing. There are many details that are very significant. 1776 Feet high:: Year of America’s independence. One tower to show how the attacks brought this country together. Look a little beyond skin deep…
