This exhibition space design by dEEP Architects is for an art exhibition titled ‘Heaven’ that is being held in Shanghai’s trend setting shopping destination Xin Tian Di Shopping Mall. The form of a rabbit was chosen because in the Chinese culture this year is the Year of the Rabbit. More images and architects’ description after the break.

The rabbit, situated in a central atrium, is made visible by almost 4000 fiber optic strands hanging from the ceiling, with crystal balls hanging at the light ends, each source of light outlining the rabbit’s rounded form.

From within, the exhibition space is defined by a boundary of light, and is thus given the name ‘Light Gallery’. Controls allow the light to change into a variety of colors and tones, setting a vibrant and out-of-this-world atmosphere, reflecting the title of the exhibition ‘Heaven’. The rabbit will stay installed in Xin Tian Di until the end of the Rabbit Year, after which each fiber optic and crystal ball will be gifted to shoppers as souvenirs.
