The BUGA Wood Pavilion celebrates a new approach to digital timber construction. Its segmented wood shell is based on biological principles found in the plate skeleton of sea urchins, which have been studied by the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) and the Institute for Building Structures and Structural Design (ITKE) at the University of Stuttgart for almost a decade.

To the north of the municipality of La Tour-de-Peilz, on the edge of Lake Geneva, lies an old vineyard above the town. The setting is distinctive: the southern side of the hill is built up, whereas most of the northern slope is covered in woodland. A steep lane leads to the site, flanked by high walls, just like a path running through a vineyard. The theme of the wall is an integral part of the neighborhood. The project draws inspiration from this theme, taking its cue from existing structures. The wall blends in with the lie of the land, before undergoing a transformation into a sculpted monolith that rises from the top of the hill.
With his delicate designs for spatial structures and innovative concepts, Asif Khan is considered one of the world’s most exciting architects. The German Design Council honored the exceptional London-based architect by awarding him the prestigious Architects of the Year special prize at the ICONIC AWARDS 2018: Innovative Architecture competition awards ceremony. As a first-time member of the jury, Khan will be responsible this year

NOVE is a 7/10-story office building in the center of Munich in the privileged new area of Arnulfpark, 10 minutes from the central station and close to the major points of interest in the city. On a floor area of 27,500 sqm, the building provides space for 1,300 jobs. The building is planned primarily for office use. On the ground floor, this is complemented by a restaurant and bar, shops/showrooms and conference areas. Two large patios are available to all users of the building: one with water features and informal meeting areas and one which creates a more contemplative and calm atmosphere, following the design of Enzo Enea. A penthouse level offers special office-areas with terraces and roof gardens. The building is topped with a vegetated green roof.
The steep and narrow plot with relatively small area and northern slope lead to architectural solutions creating a pleasant living environment. The design meets the original value of local architectural heritage such as simplicity, functionality and appropriate human scale.
A base made from rammed concrete Office principals Andreas Reeg and Marc Dufour-Feronce place special attention on the local connection of their buildings.e for the lower ground living levels. The outdoor walls of the long stretched pool are also lined with the material. The base was supposed to look and feel “like it was excavated”, explains architect Andreas Reeg. The century old construction material is traditionally applied in layers and then manually compacted. This results in an open, porous and characterful textured surface.
