oin us celebrate architecture at Anthology Festival 2021! From March 19-21, 2021, is transformed into a 3-day virtual event that brings together architects, artists, designers, policy makers and advocates to shine a spotlight on our built environment.
For the past 5 years, Anthology Festival has delved into themes that revolve around current events in the hopes of furthering the practice of Architecture and its involvement in making the city a better place for all. This year, the 6th Anthology Architecture and Design Festival is transformed into a 3-day virtual event that will reach an even wider public with free online accessibility. It is centered around the theme, “Our City”, that shines a light on the continuous transformation of architectural necessities that make our cities. It seeks to break down the shapes of our past cities to inform the adapting city of today.

ARCA, a leading group in the stone, tile and wood industry, is welcoming the public to its newly opened design warehouse to view an exhibition by international and local designers and makers “Balance as it Relates to the Environment.” The theme of the exhibition is restorative design, where hand-picked designers were tasked with using 38 recycled marble bricks to create a unique work that promotes an environmental message. The winning piece, selected by the esteemed Deans of University of Miami’s School of Architecture, will be displayed at ARCA Wynwood and open to the public as of February 5th.
On the 4th of August 2020, a massive explosion hit the heart of the city of Beirut. The Epicenter of this explosion was the main port surrounded by the historic center of the city. This scar left more than 300,000 people without a home, and destroyed hundreds of historical buildings. The area was also known to be an attraction to a majority of the Lebanese youth, an Art and Cultural Hub standing side to side with a Nightlife and culinary center. The area affected was part of a collective memory of generations and generations evolving organically with the passing years. It was a perfect example of how a historic area can intuitively evolve and keep up with the times without losing its features.

Concéntrico, the Logroño (Spain) International Architecture and Design Festival, seeks to reflect on the urban environment and the city through different formats of architectural and design projects. Next year’s edition, Concéntrico 07, will take place from September 2–5, 2021.
OUTSIDER - a magazine that transcends boundaries has launched an architectural competition that encourages exploration of the significant potential of earth as a building material. The technique is one of the oldest known building methods. It carries a great potential in becoming a prevailing “novelty” of the future. The great environmental aspects, unique aesthetics, and energy efficiency are reasons enough to explore the topic forward.

Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) with GIZ India, Taru Leading Edge and Urbanista under the “Sustainable Urban Development - Smart Cities” (SUD-SC) project as part of Indo-German Bilateral Technical Cooperation launches the Co(Vai) Design Competition - a national level ‘Urban Design Competition’ (UDC) that aims to jointly design and facilitate with a diverse set of stakeholders the implementation of integrated civic projects that are of key relevance to the sustainable development of Coimbatore. The competition invites multi-disciplinary teams of professionals from diverse backgrounds (Architecture, Urban design, Landscape Design, Social Sciences, Humanities, Ecology & Environmental Sciences, Spatial Planning and allied fields) to participate and present implementable ideas that are scalable, sustainable, inclusive in nature, based on local needs and multisectoral in their approach.
The COVID-19 pandemic puts health and safety in homes and workplaces to the test. Improved ventilation and sanitation have taken on special urgency among the many performance aspects of building design. ESD Global executive chairman Raj Gupta and International WELL Building Institute president and CEO Rachel Hodgdon will present examples of office towers being adapted for safe re-occupancy, such as Chicago’s 150 North Riverside, and explain the growing use and relevance of the WELL Building Standard (a certification akin to LEED for energy efficiency) in the healthy buildings movement. Chicago Architecture Center President and CEO Lynn Osmond moderates a discussion to follow, during which speakers will delve into the challenges and opportunities of implementation and competitive advantages for healthy buildings. What will it take to transform our work environments?
