Since its inception, the LIMAPOLIS workshop has been a research and design studio characterized by constant experimentation with issues relevant to Lima's architectural reality, aiming to spark debate and provide strategies for creating better architecture. In this eighth edition, “Toward a Specific Generic” focuses on studying Lima's geoclimatic conditions, considering how the city has historically responded to them in a detached manner, to move toward an architecture more pertinent to the local reality. This theme was proposed by organizers Gary Leggett, Augusto Román, and Paulo Dam from the PUCP Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, where the event will take place from March 5 to 10.

With this shared vision, the organizers have invited prominent international architects: Juan Ignacio Baixas (Baixas y del Río Arquitectos, Chile), Teodoro Fernández (Teodoro Fernández Arquitectos, Chile), Javier García Germán (Totem Arquitectos Asociados, Spain), and Renaud Haerlingen and Raphael Bach (Rotor, Belgium). Drawing on their expertise and specialties, they will guide the discourse on the city through four specific themes: structure, landscape, envelope, and light/color. Below are the details for this event, which is open to national and international students and architects.

The Estonian Institute of Historical Memory has launched an international design competition to find the best designs for an international museum of the crimes of communism, which is to be established in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. The objective of the design competition is to find a contemporary, attractive and visitor-friendly design for the museum’s architecture, exposition and interior design.

The goods and ecosystem-based services provided by rivers have been indispensable for the emergence and development of many cities. The first urban civilizations arose on the floodplains of large rivers thousands of years ago. As documented by environmental historians and urban political ecologists, however, from the mid-eighteenth century onwards, urban rivers in much of the industrializing world served predominantly as shipping arteries, flood control channels, hydropower sources, and sinks for urban wastes in the quest for modernity and industrial growth. In the process of industrialization and urbanization, many rivers were being “pushed around” by planners and engineers, and many experienced morphological changes to such an extent that they came to resemble canals more than natural streams. Stretches of some urban rivers were even diverted into underground tunnels, paved, or filled, making them disappear entirely from the cityscape.

Oxford Street and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) are calling for experienced lighting designers and architectural specialists from the UK and beyond to enter a global competition to design the most inspiring and innovative Christmas lights.

The ArkDes Fellowship offers practitioners, spatial thinkers, and researchers operating in or around the fields of architecture and design opportunities for interdisciplinary research at ArkDes, the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design. The first annual fellowship will be dedicated to the theme of Projecting the Future, providing four Fellows with space to conduct explorative work for a six month-long period (September 2018 to February 2019) in Stockholm.

The purpose of this competition is to select the best proposal for the design of the Corral de Comedias and the general layout of the "Fiesta Corral Cervantes, Madrid 2018," which will take place at the Cuesta de Moyano in Madrid during the summer of 2018.

The Mataró City Council (Barcelona province) has launched an ideas competition to revitalize and boost the city center.

The objective of the competition is to "design a strategy and a model that includes economic, urban planning, architectural, and mobility actions, as well as economic, cultural, and social revitalization efforts, to promote the center as a hub for cultural, commercial, and tourist activity, integrated within a unified vision that highlights its historical and heritage legacy."

‘Through the Prison Wall’ - 'Contatto' between prisoners and citizens - is promoted in collaboration with the Prison of Lecce and has as its goal the rearrangement of Multipurpose Hall spaces.

The competition requires the design and the construction of a movable wall of the Multipurpose Hall. The Multipurpose Hall is the place where people attend events and exhibitions open to the public. Here there is the contact between two worlds, free men, and inmates, city, and prison. Two worlds with no exchange. The wall should physically divide the space of the room, but it should also be the 'contact' between these two realities.

The 2018 BIM Competition asks applicants to reflect on the creation of a grammar school for 500 students in the city of Suresnes. Also, The Suresnes Open-Air School is located on this existing cluster block. Candidates should include a proposal for repurposing it.
