This work focuses on the study of the house for Edith Farnsworth, an archetype of the finest modern architecture designed by the German architect Mies van der Rohe in the mid-20th century. The analysis unfolds by tracing—from the initial design schemes to the construction of the house—a series of architectural operations the architect employed to achieve this sublime building.

Large openings are a popular inclusion in the modern home, but loading and structural movements that cause few problems with regular sized door openings can have very significant consequences in a bigger opening. Your structural engineer will generally be able to ensure your building complies with all statutory regulations and does not fall down, but the movement of and around large openings can often cause unnecessary problems for the builder or the homeowner.

2019 marks the tenth anniversary of the first edition held in Concepción, Chile. Collective Housing in Chimbarongo: Reflections on a Rural Collective Habitat is an exhibition of academic projects by third-year students from the Architecture program at the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana in Chile.
Primera Simetría is the second solo exhibition by Raisa Bosich. Her first show, also held at Galería NAC, was part of the gallery’s inaugural 2015 exhibition cycle, which featured the first group of artists still represented by the gallery today. The exhibition opens on June 5 and will be on view through June 29.

XXIII ARQUISUR Congress - Belo Horizonte, MG - October 2-4, 2019
Held since 1992, the ARQUISUR Congresses are organized by the member institutions of the Association of Public Schools and Faculties of Architecture of South America—currently composed of 28 schools and faculties from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The structure of ARQUISUR events reflects the three pillars of university activity: research, teaching, and outreach. Alongside these scientific events, teaching activities aimed at undergraduate students—the workshops—and the ARQUISUR Meetings take place.
The 21st Brazilian Congress of Architects announced on Monday, May 27, an extension of the deadline for project submissions, now open until June 15 via the website www.21cba.com.br. The event will take place in Porto Alegre from October 9 to 12, 2019, and is organized by the IAB-RS.
