CREA TALENTS is an open&free; Architecture Ideas Competition, sponsored by The Economic Development & Culture Committee. The objective of the competition is to provide maximum freedom to the participants to engage the project without constraints in the most creative way.

The Animalesque AA Visiting School Competition invites students and professionals from all over the world to participate in the production of visionary scripts about the future agency of animals in the design and construction of urban environments.

Open Source Design is the development of ideas without the retention of intellectual property. The goal of this initiative is to propagate a community of designers that are enthusiastic to selfless creation. The Open Source Design Library is a by-product of ARC.HV's experimental study, The 4th Dimension. The products currently range from furniture pieces, installations, jewellery, modular shelters and animal pods. The objective is to use locally available materials consciously with minimum wastage while following a DIY method of making or easy assembly in construction.

Call for Ideas: Parametric Design Competition

The Media Architecture Biennale (MAB) is the world’s premier event on media architecture, urban interaction design, and urban informatics. It brings together architects, artists and designers, leading thinkers on urban design, key industry and government representatives as well as community activists. Together, they explore the design and role of media in the built environment and its implications for urban communities and ecosystems.

The Rio de Janeiro Department of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB-RJ) has opened registration for the 58th Annual Awards—Road to the Centenary and the 37th Architect of Tomorrow Award. The former aims to recognize the intellectual and professional production of the Department's members, while the Architect of Tomorrow is dedicated to honoring academic work produced in architecture and urbanism programs across the state of Rio de Janeiro. The winning final graduation projects in the eight categories of the Architect of Tomorrow award will also compete for the Grandjean de Montigny Award, sponsored by CAU/RJ.

The call for entries for the 2020 CAU/RJ Grandjean de Montigny Grand Prize is now available! This year's winner will be awarded a study trip to a Latin American country, in addition to R$ 7,000 for expenses. The authors of the projects placed 2nd and 3rd will receive R$ 5,000 and R$ 3,000, respectively, for study trips. The results will be announced at the Architect and Urban Planner Day celebration on December 15. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held online and streamed live on the CAU/RJ YouTube channel. Further details regarding the program will be released soon.

Urban screenings and films exploring the intersection of architecture and art were highlights of the recently concluded second weekend of the ArqFilmFest. The festival, which runs until November 29, is being held for free and online, allowing it to reach audiences across the country and the continent.

Not a month goes by without Danish architects and Danish design in the news, as design seems to be one of the primary exports from the tiny Scandinavian country. To be fair, the attention isn't a bad thing. Denmark has a rich heritage of furniture designers and architects who have transformed spatial thinking around the world. Some thoughts were so “BIG,” that they envisioned inhabiting the moon or making plans for a Masterplanet.

The new Global Master in Real Estate Development program is designed for professionals with backgrounds in various fields, from finance or economics to architecture, and from engineering to law. The aim of this degree is for students to explore the relationship between real estate development, investment and city infrastructure from a wholly global perspective. The program is based on the principles of sustainability, digital innovation and real estate technology transformation.

Aiming to transform times of crisis into opportunities to discover new ways of overcoming emerging challenges, the Association of Architecture Offices (AOA), through its Associates and Services committee, has organized the "Dialogues for Action" series. This series is designed to provide members and interested parties with an opportunity to discuss current issues related to the city.

Charles Holland is joined by Sumayya Vally (Counterspace) to discuss the role of the plan in the work of her practice, specifically the way that this intersects with issues of politics, gender and cultural distinctions.

The architecture of Arne Jacobsen and Otto Weitling is of outstanding importance for postwar modernism in Germany. At the same time, the quality of their projects has fallen into oblivion. The curators Hendrik Bohle and Jan Dimog would like to close this gap in the public perception with the touring exhibition and the accompanying publication.
