In recent years, numerous studies on architecture and gender have been published, and an increasing number of works are dedicated to women architects and the challenges they face in their professional practice simply for being women. Long before this, Dolores Hayden was one of the first scholars to study a group of American feminists—such as Melusina Fay Peirce, Mary Livermore, and Charlotte Perkins Gilman—who campaigned against the isolation of women in the home and their confinement to domestic life, viewing it as the root cause of their unequal status in society.
New generations of thinkers and creators view destruction as the end of one cycle and the beginning of another—a future already upon us that demands we address the effects of the previous period through an essential, transparent, consistent, and horizontal union of ethics and aesthetics.

This catalog is part of a curatorial cycle born from the stimulating—and certainly challenging—invitation from the Embassy of Brazil in Chile to propose a project for the conclusion of Brazil’s bicentennial independence celebrations, developed through a gallery ship for architecture. Our decision to focus on the figure of Lina Bo Bardi was made quickly, as we did not see in any other reference of modern architecture that capacity to engage with the core of Brazilian culture and, at the same time, anticipate current revisions of ecology, feminism, or colonialism that, without labeling them as such, permeated her work and established it to this day as an inexhaustible reference in contemporary disciplinary discussions.
Svetlana Kana Radević’s architecture is a radical act of mediation. Rising to prominence in post-war Yugoslavia, her buildings speak on all scales, engaging geo-political and social complexities. Drawing from knowledge of materiality and vernacular traditions within her native Montenegro (formerly Yugoslavia), her work filters modernism’s globalized forces through an intimate, place-based lens. Radević’s civic spaces re-centered provincial knowledge and facilitated a socially-progressive public sphere within the Yugoslav socialist state.

Hadi Teherani approaches his architecture and design projects holistically. Born in Teheran and raised in Hamburg, he is a prolific and versatile designer whose works can be found in Germany and all over the world. His projects have been recognized with internationally renowned awards for their ecologically-sound sustainability and holistic approach. Maybe that’s the reason for his constant stream of ideas: he sees the process of creation as a reaction to what he sees, senses and feels.
Designing from personal perception and inspiration, Teherani's bathroom concept for the AXOR DISTINCTIVE project was born. When asked by the brand how he would define his very personal “bathroom with personality”, the architect answered with a design that reflects an individual idea of this space, derived from this self-image — in its daily use, its design and its furnishing.
On Thursday, March 9, YAP CONSTRUCTO 9: SKENÉ will open. This iteration of the YAP (Young Architects Program) is developed in Chile by CONSTRUCTO under the direction of architects Jeannette Plaut and Marcelo Sarovic.
The Little Big World of Flavio Papi began to take shape early in his childhood, when he first started producing models and miniature sculptures. At age six, he began drawing with Augusto Rodrigues at the "Escolinha de Artes do Brasil," followed by a period at the MAM under Ivan Serpa from age seven to twelve. His architectural background—as he is an architect in addition to being a visual artist and model maker—greatly benefited his small-scale projects. Today, Flavio Papi is considered the foremost Brazilian model maker, boasting an extensive and distinguished portfolio of work for advertising, film, and television (including TV Globo, the defunct Manchete, and Record). On February 9, "The Little Big World of Flavio Papi" will open at the Centro Cultural Correios RJ. Curated by Dinah Guimarães, the exhibition offers a retrospective of his more than 60-year career, bringing together drawings, paintings, sculptures, and models.
Trends emerge from society's need for innovation and, therefore, reflect cultural, social, and economic contexts, among others. In this session, we will identify the innovations currently shaping the architecture and design market, covering theory and methodologies for those interested in the study of trends and foresight.
Prefabricated, modular timber construction has emerged as a particularly suitable way for building in existing structures – especially in confined urban spaces. Gaps between buildings can be closed and older ones can be extended in a short time and with little energy and space expenditure. Compared to other building materials, wood is also very light, which is especially important when expanding existing buildings with low static reserves.
The ICONIC AWARDS: Innovative Architecture focuses on projects that show how existing buildings can be revitalised, how building materials can be used in a variety of ways, and the innovative climate concepts that can be implemented to provide valuable impetus for more sustainable construction. Recycling, secondary use and appropriately extending the service life – these are the core principles of sustainability, which of course also apply to buildings.
This event will feature various papers on different perspectives of simulation applied to performance analysis across a wide range of building types, fostering a rich debate on the present and future of this resource.
In its seventh edition, the "Italian Design Day"—an initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its global diplomatic-cultural network—will be celebrated in Rio de Janeiro with a series of events organized by the Italian Cultural Institute, in partnership with the Consulate of Italy, the Triennale di Milano Foundation, PUC-Rio, and the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED).

LIGA 36, featuring Isidoro Michan-Guindi, opens on Thursday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at Laguna, located at Calle Doctor Erazo 176, Colonia Doctores, and is free and open to the public. Key projects will be presented through models in various formats, complemented by a series of images that provide insight into the architect's process through brief glimpses of their studio. The opening will feature a lecture by Michan-Guindi, moderated by Wonne Ickx (Productora + LIGA).
